New 'Caught Red-Handed' Report: GOP Congressmen Waste Billions of Local Taxpayer Dollars on Iraq Fiasco

A new report on the "Cost of Iraq" will be released on Wednesday, August 30, in twenty-five cities by members of MoveOn.org Political Action. The report will analyze the cost of the Iraq War by Congressional district.

Since the Iraq war began, the Republican-led Congress has spent more than $300 Billion on President Bush's failed policy. $18 billion has been awarded to Halliburton, much of which was in "no bid" contracts and $9 billion is missing.

"Most Americans agree President Bush's Iraq policy is a fiasco. But Congress keeps rubber-stamping Bush's wasteful spending," said Tom Matzzie, Washington Director of MoveOn Political Action. "By voting to spend $300 billion on the fiasco in Iraq, Republicans in Congress have short-changed education, health care, job creation, and tough homeland security," he added.

The estimate is based on two reports: the "Cost of War" by the National Priorities Project -- http://costofwar.com/numbers.html -- which looks at Congressional appropriations and Congressional Research Service (CRS) studies.

1. We can fund Iraq, but not rebuild N.O. thanks to the Republicons
The way the Homeland security money is distributed is full of waste & pork as well. Money to secure petting zoos - please.

Still trying to decide who are the better rip-off artist
Nigerians or Republicons. The edge goes to the Nigerians since they can scam money without being in power.

2. What doesn't get funded to wage the Iraq war?
Or, more to the point, how much of our budget goes to service the debt we're running up for the Iraq invasion? If I didn't have to worry about the end of the next billing cycle, I could run up a pretty impressive personal debt load on my available credit. Six figures, easily. But I couldn't possibly pay even the interest on that debt were I to run it up. Bush and his Republican cronies are spending, spending, spending without a care in the world. There will be no end to the billing cycle for them; they'll be safely out of office by the time the books are opened and an accounting of this waste is reckoned.

Then they can bitch about how the Democrats are raising their taxes to pay for their latest party, just like they bitched in the 1990s.

3. Nice post
Thanks for info and keep up the good work!
You know its pretty sad that this administration continues to push its failed policies and programs like the EPA are facing tragic cuts, health programs cut, education cut and most of the Katrina victims are still waiting for help. I could go on but its a waste of time. We all know Bush doesn't care for the people he is governing here in America!
