Requiem
Mother Mary, full of grace, awaken
All our homes are gone, our loved ones taken
Taken by the sea
Mother Mary, calm our fears, have mercy
Drowning in a sea of tears, have mercy
Hear our mournful plea
Our world has been shaken
We wander our homelands forsaken
In the dark night of the soul
Bring some comfort to us all
Oh mother Mary come and carry us in your embrace
That our sorrows may be faced

This is an excerpt from "Requiem" by Eliza Gilkyson. I first heard this beautiful song on the Laura Flanders show, and I am listening to it again today.

If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend listening. Go to http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4847831 and click the "Requiem" link beneath "Hear the Song".

I know I don't post much anymore, but I wanted to do something to commemorate this day and let those on the Gulf Coast know we're thinking of you.

What songs are you listening to today?

4. I find it so moving. What are you listening to today?
Besides this song, "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans" by Louis Armstrong is one of the ones I love the most.

5. Yes, I love that song.
I heard her on Laura Flanders, and got a bunch of her music off Itunes.

6. I heard an orig. song at a Katrina Mem. Service in Waveland, MS yesterday.
By Eric Funches, an elementary school music teacher from Picayune. Picayune is just north of Waveland, which took the direct hit of Katrina and was flattened. Eric wrote We Are Strong just a few days after Katrina hit. I was one of the clery presiding at the service, and this song was among the most moving parts of the memorial for me.

Eric's made it available online at http://wearestrong.net/. Take a listen. It's really good.
