Gun control, a subject near and dear to many in the middle class. Tell the voters, sign a pledge, whatever it takes, let the voters be assured our party will not infringe on the second amendment. I talk to people all the time who say they agree with most of our platform, but turn around and say, but Dems will take our guns away. Gun rights is one issue where a huge amount of voters are and will be single issue voters. IMO, if we could lose the stigma of being gun grabbers, we would increase our support by a massive amount. I also mean, no assault weapon bans, mag capacity bans, leaving it up to each state or city etc.. The pro gun people I speak with are so paranoid, they are afraid to give an inch, because they see it as a way for the gov. to take a mile. They see this just like others view the first amendment. There should be no infringement period. I vote Democrat, and will continue to do so, I think you have to take the over all good with the bad, the bad being infringement on the second amendment. I enjoy firearms for sport, and have them for protection, I also visit firearm related sites. The majority of the people on these sites are just as fed up with this administration, and the repugs in general, a lot of them are current and past military people, they would be more than willing to change sides, as long as they knew gun control wouldn't be a threat. They are very passionate about the right to keep and bear arms, and will put other issues aside, to protect that one right ie..(cold dead hands, go down fighting etc.). I have been pleasantly surprised by all the gun rights support at DU, it seems the majority here favor 2nd amendment protection, so if the DU is in favor of it, why shouldn't the majority of Dems be in favor also. I think this one issue, added to our platform, would easily garuntee Democratic control of all branches of gov. for a long time to come, and possibly bring in all that NRA money. We could turn the tables on them easily. Question, would most be in favor of leaving the second amendment alone, if it insured the Democratic domination of government, and ridding the congress of most of these repugs? Just food for thought
