Thom Hartmann; Reclaiming The Issues: Islamic Or Republican Fascism?
Thom Hartmann; Reclaiming The Issues: Islamic Or Republican Fascism?

by Thom Hartmann

http://www.opednews.com

In the years since George W. Bush first used 9/11 as his own "Reichstag fire" to gut the Constitution and enhance the power and wealth of his corporate cronies, many across the political spectrum have accused him and his Republican support group of being fascists.

On the right,The John Birch Society's website editor recently opined of the Bush Administration's warrantless wiretap program: "This is to say that from the administration's perspective, the president is, in effect, our living constitution. This is, in a specific and unmistakable sense, fascist."

Genuine American fascists are on the run, and part of their survival strategy is to redefine the term "fascism" so it can't be applied to them any more. Most recently, George W. Bush said: "This nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation."

.........................

But theocracy - the merging of religion and government - is also on the plate for the new American fascists (just as it was for Hitler, who based the Nazi death cult on a "new Christianity" that would bring "a thousand years of peace"), so they don't want to use that term, either.

3. This is the exact right question to be asking.
I know where I stand on this question: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1898480

Just another example of projection by these politicians who are zero substance, 100% psychological projection.

4. I figured when Bush started to use the term "fascist" to describe his
enemy, it was so that we could no longer refer to he and his friends as fascists. After all, we can't have fascists fighting fascists.

6. More amazing research and writing from Thom
I had never heard or read the quote that he used fro FDR or Wallace. Sounds like Wallace knew who the bad guys were, too bad they couldn't have been prevented from breeding.

7. Isn't fascism the 'marriage' of corporations and state? Anyone using...
... the term 'Islamofascist' is a complete and utter 'moran'. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! It's one of Hannity's favourites.

9. First they tried calling them Islamic Commies
Pat Robertson was one of the first to describe them as such. I think they were laughed out of Dodge over that one so had to come up with a new name everyone would automatically hate. Fascists were always hated so that is what they became.. It is about stirring up hatred. The GOP thrives on that...

12. Yeah, but who remembers that?
That info is only for people who gave enough of a damn about what happened in Germany in those years to research it. The Islamic militants want the same government that they've had in the region for 1400 years. Backwards? Yes. Fascist? No. Would we give a damn if they weren't sitting on all that oil? Of course not. Look at the things we let slide in Africa.

11. I read it - he misses a big point.
Thom Hartmann's research of history is excellent for sure.

One thing though, the Republicans would never have been able to pull this off without the help of key Democrats - I am sorry to say.

We need to vote the bums out, so to speak. But watch out for the new bums!

We, the people, have only one choice to save ourselves. We must take control of a portion of government power for ourselves, to add a forth branch for additional balance. We must enact the National Initiative for Democracy!
