What would happen if foreign forces occupied part of the US?

I imagine that there would be a 'resistance' movement. And I'm sure there would be cases of extreme brutality against the occupying forces. The American people would not sit by idly while some other country's forces kill their husbands, fathers, and sons. We wouldn't sit by while our wives and daughters are raped by foreign soldiers. And while we may loathe our current president, I daresay that if he were being held illegally (key word being illegally, not having attacked the invading country), that we probably wouldn't be too happy about that either.

So what's so hard to understand about the "insurgency" in Iraq?

...doesn't it all depend on who shows up, where they're taking over and what they then do? If Hezbollah pulled into NOLA with cash, reconstruction teams and a security force to protect the locals from the La. Stasi, i'm not so sure they'd be resisted. If the Cuban military took over a few ghettos and did to them what they did to Cuba, how many will pick up a gun and say "we don't don't free education, health care, meaningful jobs, etc."? And if Venezula took over some bankrupt state (say, like NJ) and offered to pay off its debt and invest in all the people-friendly things our own legislature doesn't, who's going to start building barricades and filling the empty beer bottles with gasoline? On the other hand, if the IDF came here to "Lebanize" Delaware or RI, then there might be some opposition.

Imagine in your scenario if the local John Birch Society Yahoos and the Methodists for Mao decided that the time had finally come to wipe out those Americans who had Betrayed America by having the wrong ideas obout America.

That's sort of what we have in Iraq - they aren't just killing US troops and Iraqi Police Officers (or, if you perfer, American stooges), they are doing a pretty good job of killing each other too.

Oh, and if Bush is a war criminal than Saddam certainly qualifies as well.

Hell, we have them now!!! But, if you want to see Americans pull together, just attempt to occupy. It is our responsibility, it is our civic duty, to clean our own house; for true democracy, ideals must be gained, be acquired, sometimes through great sacrifice, within. Hitler sold the German people the story of liberating Poland from its tyrannical government; Bush sold the American people the story of liberating Iraq from its tyrannical regime. However, justice and liberty are not given as a gift by those who occupy someone else's country. Those ideals are gained at great cost by the civilians fighting for change in their own country.

19. The simple minded (the freepers) have a double standard

They want to believe they are superior on grounds for which they made no effort (where they were born). The expect the rest of the world to recognize it. Insane as is may sound, they actually expect the rest of the world to kowtow to America and expect the iraqis to be grateful for the US occupation and to acknowledge the "wrongness" of opposing what the US says is best for them.

It is this lack of ability to understand human nature that makes them freepers.

Freepers can't seem to get it through their skulls that the 'insurgents' are only doing the natural thing any humans would upon having a foreign nation invade their country (particularly illegally). But these fools would denounce the insurgents as evil while simultaneously cheering the "Wolverines" in Red Dawn. :eyes:

I personally wouldn't target fellow Americans. But there are plenty of "American" groups out there, ie your right-wing militias, neo-Nazis, KKK, etc that would gladly take advantage of the opportunity to "clean house".
