It's all over just like that, huh?

Wow.

2. I heard he would be extradited to CA for child porn charges.
Apparently there's a warrant for his arrest there; misdemeanor. Heard it on one of the cable news channels. But as far as obstruction of justice or robbing taxpayers for first class fare, champagne and shrimp - no. :eyes:

4. I 've heard several times CA dropped those charges
They were all only misdemeanors anyway.

Don't blame Karr for the pate, etc. -- blame the overzealous private investigators and the stupid US Government. Karr was just living his weird little life out in Thailand, getting ready to be castrated.

6. I believe
they were reinstated shortly after these charges were dropped.

3. What obstruction of justice?
I'm not being a smart-aleck, I swear!

California dropped all charges, and the Boulder DA -- I think -- was forced into something she didn't agree with. He's no longer charged with ANYTHING. You can't just hold him because he's nuts and skeevy.

5. Didn't he lie to the FBI?
To be honest I haven't been following that closely, but I can't believe that he could tell the FBI in an interrogation that he was somewhere that he actually wasn't and just...go away free.

7. This story suggests the confession wasn't given to the FBI per se.
http://9news.com/acm_news.aspx?OSGNAME=KUSA&IKOBJECTID=56ec8b25-0abe-421a-0049-c07b932dc971&TEMPLATEID=0c76dce6-ac1f-02d8-0047-c589c01ca7bf

This suggests that the confession was given to a private person and was recorded by the FBI, therefore, there can be no intent to lie to the FBI.

16. Wish I had any way of knowing if it was true or not though.
Hard to say just from some news station's report.

12. I have heard
that the FBI had looked at him as a potential suspect five years ago, but I do not think they spoke with him.

He recently spoke to state investigators and to a foreign police force. It is highly unlikely that this could lead to any charges. There are differences in laws regarding lying to various state officials, versus federal investigators.

But the more important thing is that this clown is of a character that makes it difficult to say with any certainty if he was purposely lying. Surely people can conclude he was, and a good case can be made in support of that position. But it also looks like a good case could be made that the fellow had schizoid characteristics, and that his fantasy life was "groomed" by a college professor with a vested interest in finding the killer.

9. The DA's office will take the hit for this one.
It was they who ultimately decided to go to Thailand and get him. They may have been prodded.

11. Karr
I have a feeling Kar will have enough for his operation (and a few new outfits to boot) before this is all over. JonBenet, watch out; you're gonna have some competition.

14. Was listening to Air America
while coming home around 6:00 CDT tonight - not sure who is on at that time anymore as I rarely listen to it anymore...

The host and a caller were talking about this and one of them mentioned that there was a homeland security person in Thailand when Karr was apprehended and that this person made a statement to the press... Does anyone know anything more about that? Remember when everyone was laughing last week that somehow this must be a Rove thing as it very conveniently distracted attention from the Detroit judge who ruled B**sh was acting illegally by wiretapping without a warrant?

:tinfoilhat: My hat is on until someone tells me to calm down.

19. I read a blog post on Huffington about that....
"...But what I still don't know is why on earth the Department of
Homeland Security -- in its putative job of protecting Americans from global terrorism -- has anything to do with an arrest in the murder of a little girl, a child beauty pageant contestant, that happened ten years ago in a moderately sized Colorado town...."

"...Karr sat in a window seat next to Mark Spray, an investigator with the Boulder County district attorney's office. A U.S. Embassy official and an agent with "Homeland Security" on his T-shirt were also part of the escort party...."

15. He Needs Help, I Would Imagine
I knew this guy was a hoax, but nevertheless, I think the compassionate thing to do is get him a psychiatric evaluation ASAP, because in spite of the fact there is no possibility whatsoever he killed JonBenet Ramsey, his whole conduct during the past two weeks has been an obvious indication that he is not well and needs a lot of help. It is probably not such a great idea to release him onto the streets, IMHO.

But this entire charade has been a healthy thing because it reveals how pathetic and weak the media is.

17. He might have been toying with the woman...
Who recorded him on the phone, too. If that was really him being recorded.

He did seem emotionally dead, as if what was happening to him wasn't real. Guess that can happen when someone's mom tries to burn him alive when he's only 2.
