What Will Be Karl Rove's "October Surprise" This Time?
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 03:31 PM by David Zephyr
Be assured that there will be an October Surprise in this election cycle. In fact, there may be multiple surprises. And we can also be assured that the surprises are already planned and in the hopper ready to drop with military timing and precision. But what are the surprises that Democrats can expect?

Here's what I see:

1.) Saddam Hussein's first trial is expected to deliver up a "verdict" and "sentence" in, you guessed it, October! October 16 is the exact date: just two weeks before the mid-term elections! The press releases and chest-thumping theatrics are already scripted for Republican Congressmen and Senators and are now "in rehearsal" at Fox "News" and White House-friendly corporate media outlets which will maximize the spin on Hussein's capture, trial and sentence. Democrats = Weak on Terror and America's enemies. Referenced news story: http://www.greenwichtime.com/sns-ap-saddam-trial,0,5041548.story

2.) The Iraqi puppet government will announce to the entire world --- quite possibly from the United Nations --- that it is formally asking the Bush Administration to begin a formal withdrawal of American soldiers and Marines from the nation and falsely tell the world that Iraq can now see "light at the end of the tunnel" and that "peace is at hand" because their security forces have "turned the corner" and will be able to "stand up" so that Americans can now "stand down". This is already in the works and, in spite of the Pentagon's recent suggestion that more and more troops are on their way, Bush will be able to tell the American voters that our troops will soon be coming home "because of the Iraqi government's timetable, not the cowardly one of the Democrats". You can already see this scenario developing in this referenced new-story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060827/pl_afp/usiraqmaliki_060827194309&printer=1.

3.) Or course, a third, and more ominous "October Surprise" might very well be orchestrated saber rattling and, yes, fear mongering by the White House about the possibility of making war against Iran. Already, the White House, through its maniacal emissary, John Bolton, has announced to the world that it is not bound by the U.N. with regards to Iran. Will there be new "intelligence" that proves that Iran is closer than previously thought to having a nuclear weapon? And isn't this a lot like the midterm election period of October 2002 as the Bush Cabal began to beat the drum for invading Iraq? The DU forums during that period of time might be good reading for alas, the past is prologue so many times, isn't it? Referenced news story: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/05/02/us_could_seek_iran_sanctions_outside_un_bolton/.

One doesn't need to read tea leaves to see what the White House is planning, in order, once again to manipulate public opinion in order to keep control of Congress. And one doesn't need to be a historical researcher to find the appalling evidence of the Republican Party's dirty tricks just before election time to maintain and steal political power.

What else may the GOP (Gaming October Politically) be up to in order to prevent being thrown out of office by a disenchanted electorate? What are they up to this time?

1. Gas should be down to about $1.20 by the end of October
Two or three days before the election in a close race, some swiftboat like, sex related smear will be tooted about a dem candidate. And on it goes. They do a great job of governing don't they?

2. November Surprise: Diebold
Why go to all the trouble of whipping up foreign stories nobody wants to hear any more? Just steal another election. With most of the country thoroughly Diebolded, it'll be easier than ever.

5. Actually, Diebold is #3
in voting machines deployed. Sequoia is # 2, then ES&S. Quite a few folks went to Optical Scan, which gives us a tangible ballot to count.

They're really all tied together by family and corporate ties anyway.

4. Actually, I think some surprises are in store
but they are for Baby Bush and his crew.

A few month's ago word began to circulate that there was WORSE crimes that had still not come to light. I am betting that it involves wire-tapping Democrats and journalists. And THIS time, it is being held to the last week in October.

And I don't think these things will work. Saddam is guilty? So...we knew that.

An announcement from the Iraqi government? Ho-hum.

13. The upset in Connetticutt forced their hand
They shot their wad early in response to the first ftep to eject Senator Palpatines from the House Of Lords by the Dirty, Smelly Hippies(tm) wielding pitchforks and torches.

They saw how crying "Wolf!" isn't working as well as it used to, and a deadly attack would raise too many questions

Have noticed that they are trying to use the Scary Illegals+Reconquista gambit.

The only thing I can think of is pulling Osama out of the freezer.

29. hmmm...
i can't choose one from your list because they are all very real possibilities.

i do have a slightly different angle though, to what i think might happen; maybe not by itself but in addition to your three.

i think there will be some good news out of Afghanistan. now, you maybe thinking, 'why would the Administration do that, Afghanistan has been forgotten by the american public?' to a degree perhaps this is true; however, going into Afghanistan was possibly the one action Bush took that the majority of Americans agreed upon. It was our WW2. The Republicans will no doubt run on fear this election cycle...i do think though, they're going to need more than fear to win. They need something positive to promote and what would be better than rounding up some very bad men in Afghanistan or some such nonsense.

32. Good news from the mayor of Kabul.
Perhaps your post and those of others are a combo platter: Since Osama is reputed to be on the Afghanistan border, perhaps that will be the "news"...they are close to capturing Osama.

I just hope that we can immunize the public beforehand to expect an October (or late September) surprise from these jerks.
