Poll question: Iran attack? Will it go down, and how.

Which comes to the CLOSEST version of how you sense things will go down. Sorry if the scenario you envision isn't represented. Please add.

2. An "Iranian" will assassinate Bush
Instant martydom for Bush, millions of enraged religious right-wingers itching to start Armageddon, Dick Cheney as the new President and automatic Martial Law.

Welcome to the new nightmare....

4. We Aren't Gonna Bomb Jack Shit
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 03:35 PM by ThomWV
It isn't gonna happen, I really don't think so. In order to do that there has to be at least some national support. Bush hasn't been able to gain any that I've noticed. I don't think we'll be bombing anything and in fact I think he will be impeached before he even gets close.

6. Bush isn't going to attack Iran until he is sure he has a rubber-stamp
congress with both houses securely in the hands of the Rightwing.

He and Rove may try to push circumstances to raise tensions, in an attempt to play the fear card for the election. But he isn't going to chance another international war crime with the Democrats holding subpoena power.

15. Yes because the dems don't have subpoena power...
And the winds of change are wafting the distinctive smell of a Donkey coming to control the House.

If the Dems get the House, probes of Bush can't be stopped. An investigation of a 2nd pre-emptive attack on cooked up intelligence is definitely not something he wants.

7. Iran won't stage a terrorist attack
and even if they did, most people wouldn't beleive it.

10. Not saying that Iran would stage it necessarily.
They would be blamed for it but not necessarily responsible. Just like Iraq.

16. Iraq wasn't blamed for anything. They might have implied
Saddam's regime was terrorist supporting but that pretext can be extended to Iran and their nut-case President right now.

Any major terrorist attack will make the Republicans look worse at this point.

9. No opportunity for OTHER votes, but here's mine
They'll claim to surrender their enrichment program, enjoy concessions for a time, and move it elsewhere, secreting it away. They'll smile and continue to develop their program. They've got tons of empty space in the east to hide out, alternatively, they've got underground facilities, and could build more, or, they could boldly go west and find a spot in the Zagros mountains that isn't overrun with Kurds and build themselves an Osama-style lair from which to develop their program. They'll want a good supply of water, so if you wanna look for a secret location, follow the rivers and streams, and don't neglect the UNDERGROUND ones that crisscross their not insubstantial desert areas.

In other words, when anyone asks, they will LIE. Just like Israel, Pakistan, and South Africa did....what's news here??

If you are expecting bombing of Iran, expect the draft to punch into play first. We don't presently have the manpower for another front, you cannot hit the massive infrastructure of a country as large as Iran with airpower alone, and even if you speed up the boot camp schedule, it's eight weeks from hauling them into MEPS to spitting them out of boot camp, WITH shortcuts. And we would have to fire up a few more boot camps, too, while we are at it because training facilities have been cut along with everything else over the years--Navy used to have three, now they have just one, as an example.

12. None of the above.
Iran does not surrender its nuclear program. Nothing happens. The end.

Really, folks, we must crank down the paranoia knob. For five years people have been predicting that there will be a staged terror attack in the US to start another war/enable martial law/end elections/pick one, and it ain't happened yet.
