Krazy Kruella: Electing non-Christians a SIN
MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws."

The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and gay marriage.

Harris made the comments -- which she clarified Saturday -- in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Electing non-Christians a 'legislative sin'
"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

Why do we only get to choose between crazy people?

7. Don't disagree with her. Or you will get attacked on this board
for being a bigot, and for mocking her beliefs.

24. Well. I happen to think her beliefs are bigoted and like our resident
pResident, I fart in her general direction for even suggesting it.

She seems to lose site of the large population of jewish voters and catholic voters.

And no, most catholics I know don't consider Protestants to be "true christians" nor the other way around.

Seems she alienated all voters that weren't "of her sect" with that statement.

10. Yet again, I have to ask:
Where were these assholes when Bill Clinton was President? The man won the Presidency in two undisputed elections. Isn't that a pretty good sign that God wants a guy to be President? Whether the 'pukes liked it or not, Bill Clinton was their "divinely annointed leader" ( :puke: ) for eight years. If they went against Clinton, they were going against God. Right?

11. I heard this same thing at church once...
There is a Bible verse in Psalms or Proverbs or somewhere about how God puts rulers in power. Sounds like the perfect way that a King (Solomon?) might try to control his people (sheeple). "No matter what I do, you must accept it as God's will."

I would hope we have progressed beyond this kind of thinking. In fact we have--75% of us, anyway!

I saw somewhere that she said she only made those comments because she was speaking to a Christian group. That was when my head exploded.

Just wait until Harris' self-righteousness gets too big and her campaign leaves a permanent black hole in the GOP.

16. "God is the one who chooses our rulers." The most batshit crazy thing ...
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 03:25 PM by TahitiNut
... said by any American politician in 100 years. Or more. That shit qualifies her for a straitjacket, imho.

Nobody so fucking insane should even be allowed to drive or be within 100 yards of small children.

Not "public servants" or even "leaders" but "rulers" for fuck's sake!! Not a democracy, but a theocracy. That fucking deluded lunatic needs to be locked up. "Legislate sin"?? Isn't that what the criminally corrupt bastards like Phil Gramm and Trent Lott and Tom DeLay have been doing? What was the IWR other than lunatic hypocrisy? What was the invasion of Iraq but a Crime Against Humanity, Against Nature, and Against Sanity?? She's batshit insane!!

17. Makes you wonder
Okay, we've all known since 2000 that she was a party hack working solely on behalf of the party, regardless of her status as a state official.

Now we find out for certain that she's batshit crazy. Makes you kind of wonder if the SCOTUS and the American public would have viewed the standoff in November and December 2000 differently if they knew that Harris was Christofascistamentalist.

20. Oh, he's been saying the same things at those fundie churches
They belong to that part of Christianity that feels that lying, killing, cheating, anything is ok if it's someone who isn't part of your religion. They're sociopaths.
