RW says FOX News reporters committed "the gravest sin known to man"
Converting at Gunpoint
Posted on 08/27/2006 3:53:25 PM PDT by sionnsar

I just learned of the release of the two kidnapped reporters, Steven Centanni Olaf Wiig, in Gaza. We thank God for their release and safety. They reported that they were forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint and they complied. The implications of this are profound. A Christian who says any statement against Christ (be it coerced or not) has committed the sin of apostasy. "But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven." Matt 10:33.

The Chronicles of the first 500 years of Christianity testify that this was the gravest sin known to man, far worse than sodomy, adultery, murder, etc. because it is a direct act of blasphemy against Christ. It is forgivable, but it is the worst sin because one denies the very channel and mode of forgiveness and salvation, that is Christ Himself.

But my worries are that most Western Christians see no problem with this. "Oh, they didn't really mean it. They were a gunpoint!" All the early martyrs were at "gunpoint," and they refused to speak against Christ, affirm the gods, or confess Caesar as "Lord." St Paul could have "tricked" his persecutors and continued to evangelize the world by getting out of jail free if he had just said to Nero (if even he didn't mean it in his heart), "Yeah, yeah, Nero. You are the Lord. I won't be a Christian anymore." But St Paul did not do this. He refused to act or speak against Christ and instead he bore his neck and allowed his head to be cut off for the glory of Christ. And his witness was magnified.

Everything we do matters. Every single thing and our witness to the world, our evangelism, depends on our steadfast testimony to Christ at all times in all places. If the Muslim sees that we are not willing to die for Christ they will not see that Christ is worth living for.

to live up to his own expectations.

Why do I doubt it???????????????????????

he'd have the chance to prove himself, doesn't it.

But I'm not mean enough to really wish it...only to ponder the possibility if that brave soul were to say...enlist.

3. That's why they're called the right wing...........no sense.
This war of choice has seen enough martyrs.......the reporters were right on. Tell them what they want to hear and get the hell out of dodge.......or in this case, Gaza.

Isn't that basically a Fox News reporter's job description?

4. Oh, brother!
Gotta love these religious nuts, they're so fixated on death they're forgetting to bother to LIVE.

Any religion that demands martyrdom, the death of others, or forced conversion is a false one.

It's amazing how many people don't get that.

Luckily the Apostates are with Fox News... can you imagine the noise they would make if they worked for the Liberal Media? I can't bear to think about it.

6. There Is A World Of Difference
Between denying Christ to pagans & converting to another Judeo-Christian sect - which Islam ultimately is. Check your Qu'ran - Jesus of Nazareth is in there.

12. Wel now, that could stir up some heated debate
among fundies anyway. Some, like a lot of the other posters on that freerepub thread, will be more open minded (forgiving?) but to many a fundie, this is a serious deal, especially I reckon as it ties in to endtime doings - your "day of reckoning" and all. Do you stand with us or deny the christ and be cast from us good company of the good guys, etc.

14. Most of the RW sites I looked at are dismissing
the "conversions" as being forced. And, they are dismissing the Arab-looking robes the men were forced to wear. I find their celebration for the release appropriate, but can't help contrasting that to the way they treated Jill ? from the Christian Science Monitor when she was released. They were sure that the words she was forced to say and the way she was dressed was proof that she was a terrorist sympathizer. Does anyone find the RW reaction to both slightly hypocritical?

I'd like to have a Candid Camera episode of pretend Muslims kidnapping CMS and Grig showing them wetting their pants.

A fellow FReeper did call CMS on his braggadocio:

To: CMS
Keyboard hero.

how about at least believe whatever the fuck you want to believe...but maybe not hurry to make it the law that others must believe it also.

oh and by the way, you'd have your head on the ground, fucknut, if you hadn't "converted"...somehow I doubt it though. monday morning quarterbacks seldom follow through.

18. WTF? How does he even know the reporters were "Christian"
to begin with? How does he know they committed apostasy? Does he take for granted anyone who works for Fox is a fundie? Geez Louise this sickens me.I suppose the ME Fox team that quit have no chance of redemption. I think they may have been Muslim.Statements like this make the Rapture seem appealing. I would be relieved to see them all taken up and out of the way. If this is what is going to be raptured, I want no part of it.

If they were maybe atheist (probably wouldn't be working for Fox) or Wiccan, or any number of don't-think-jesus-is-god religions, then they committed no sin.

It's terrifying that these lunatics are even allowed to open their mouths like that, much less be taken seriously by some.

33. I gotta say from a scriptural point of view he's right
Apostasy has always been the number one big sin, and in the Talmud it's the only sin that can't be committed to save a life. I'm not saying that's right, just that's what it says.

He also exposes the hypocrisy of the RWers who insist on "following scripture" when it suits them but never fail to make an excuse if convenient.

I expect he would do the same if he were in the reporters' shoes, and he would find a way to weasel out of the scripture he just quoted, but that doesn't change his point that scripturally speaking he's on point.

37. He's also right historically.
We lost many in the first few centuries who faced horrible torture and death for not renouncing their faith.

He's making a huge assumption that those men were Christians, but if they were, they shouldn't have renounced their faith. I do agree with that.
