3. I think they did it last year, too
for the week following the Emmys. Stewart and the whole crew go to LA for the Sunday night program. It's probably a Comedy Central paid-for trip, so they get to get some much deserved R&R.

Besides, with the whole Katrina coverage that will be going on all week, with the Ramsey case filling any bit of non-Katrina time and I think * is in Maine, there probably won't be much of anything to cover.

6. Hey, maybe this is a blessing in disguise
With Malloy on in the daytime and The Daily Show (and presumably Colbert) on reruns, I might actually get some sleep this week.

7. I know they deserve a rest, but I look so forward to them every night.
I wish they would put really old repeats on when they're on vacation.

14. Writers? What'r you talking about?
It's a news show -- it just...happens.

Does the news stop when they're on vacation?

Actually, I'm glad. This week, at least, I can go catch a movie and not have to stay up until 2:00am to catch what I missed.

11. I'm sure tonight is a rerun since they would be flying back to NY.
Sometimes the rest of the week is new though on these weeks following award show Sunday nights.

15. I'm disappointed and a bit disgruntled.
I do wish they'd announce their upcoming retreads. They actually attempt to cover it up, surprisingly, by cutting the show's date in the opening announcements, leaving it to the viewer to figure out that the topics are dated.

Keith Olberman, too, takes time off and there's usually no clue until some under qualified player subs.

One of the few significant quibbles I have with these shows, and it does reduce the viewer numbers, highly important in keeping Keith's numbers up and him on the air.

Both Daily Show & Colbert are off for the Next TWO Weeks. They won't return until Monday September 11.

Colbert said this as he signed off last Thursday evening. Sorry.

19. speaking of which -- I missed the clip where they were in the water tank
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 07:46 PM by Lisa
This was on the Emmy broadcast last night, when they got to the nominations for the writing award. I heard there was a guy underwater, holding up cue cards with the Daily Show writers' names on them -- and then Jon Stewart jumped into the tank with him, and held up a card with his own name on it. Did this really happen?

That's got to be the most bizarre nomination clip ever.

p.s. as much as I am going to miss Stewart and Colbert these next couple of weeks, I have to admit that the show staff deserve a rest ... they didn't go on summer hiatus like a lot of programs. And if something enormous does happen, Jon will have the chance to exclaim "Did we miss anything?"

24. Yes it happened. The guy originally doing the cards ran out of breath
and started gurgling when Stewart dropped in with the last card.

All the nominated comedy writers did something similar:Colbert had bears, Letterman had a Springer-ish Spanish TV show free for all and Bill Maher showed pics of Right wing gas bags. It was actually funny. :-)

in the guide data. Tonight's show is really from 8/14.

Oh well. Recycled Jon Stewart is better than fresh most anyone else.
