Sometimes The Stupidity Is Stupendously Stupifying...
A caller to C-SPAN just criticized another caller for criticizing Bush and discussing the high gas prices. He said that "Bush is saving this country". How many people believe like this gentleman??

Do they really believe this is a struggle for our civilization, as some have said? Our very existence depends on beating these wielders of box cutters? All fear promoted by this Administration is warranted? Is that what we are supposed to believe?

Are we supposed to go thru the rest of our lives in fear because George Bush is a paranoid megalomaniac? Is this enemy so advanced and so intelligent that we cannot defeat them with our own technology and our own intelligence? Is there any other way to describe it than just plain stupidity?

2. The Limits of Reason
At a very real level, most of us know that there is nothing we can really do to stop people who want to commit 9/11 style acts - we can minimize them and make the more difficult to carry out. We can go after people who might plan such attacks. But can we guarentee our safety? Nope.

That's uncomfortable but it's the truth.

The Bush administration, on the other hand, tells people that that isn't the truth. That we really can defeat all evil in the world and make ourselves completely safe forever - given the choice, I suppose some prefer to believe this rather than accept hte truth.

3. Excellent point...
Some people seem to want "absolute safety"... No threats or dangers in their world...

4. I kind of think it should be a priority to get rid of * for them, then
The world is infinitely more dangerous since he got appointed. ;)

5. If Bush can protect us, when does he plan to start?
He blew it (apparently deliberately) before 9/11.
He blew it at Torah Borah.
He made our situation far more dangerous by invading and occupying Iraq.
He blew it with Katrina.

When does the Chimp-in-Chief plan to start protecting us? Is there any evidence that he ever will?

10. I am talking about how he is selling himself to us
Not how he is actually performing.

11. Oh, I know. I just think it's a foolish tactic for him.
Sooner or later people who buy his Omnipotent Great Protector image will wonder why he hasn't chosen to exercise his power effectively.

9. Yes indeed. Some people choose happy LIES over unpleasant TRUTHS.
It's not a reasoned choice, it's an EMOTIONAL one.

That's why no amount of logic or fact will affect
their opinion- their opinion has already SIDESTEPPED
the very idea of "logic and facts".

It doesn't matter how obviously incorrect their positions are,
because REALITY is not a factor in their decision-making
process to begin with.
They choose to believe whatever makes them FEEL good,
and that's all there is to it.

6. o, but we have to respect their beliefs
or else the PC nazis will call you intolerant

or, it might be, that they only want THEIR beliefs respected

maybe they could provide a definitive list of beliefs that we have to respect in order to tolerate?

7. It's the realization that everything else they believe has been
totally debunked. It's all they can cling to, that 19 crazed Saudis represent the worst danger to our civilization since the height of the Soviet Union. It's all they can believe anymore, and they're stickin to it.

8. Sometimes I think the 29% are more than that
The Bushbots are still out there, and they believe Bush has saved us. I seem to bump into many like this in my neck of the woods.

12. Absolutely, I have debated them
They repeat: there are people out there who want to kill you, they want you to convert to Islam and the point of a knife; they want to destroy our way of life.

Apparently the entire spread of Islam has been by force.

Some of them really seem to fervently believe it. Personally I think it is a need to have an enemy. There are people who psychologically need something to be against.

They also cannot differentiate how to deal with these people who "want to kill you." IOW, agree with the Bushco version of what to do about it or agree to be killed. As to how numerous these people are, who want to kill us, they never say - I think they want to believe it is true of all of the Muslims and that there are no Muslims who don't support Al Qaeda.
