Legionnaires in Utah already; most supporting Bush on Iraq

<snip>And they leave no doubt, the Iraq war must continue. "At the moment I do," said Peggy Hueber, a veteran from Alaska. "It would be fatal if we were to leave."

"Sometimes we make mistakes, but overall we are doing a good job," said Danny Eison of Illinois. "I hope we stay the course."

But nationwide, polls indicate people are having second thoughts about the war, even in Utah.

A Salt Lake Tribune poll shows 42% of Utahns are less optimistic about a successful outcome in Iraq. The poll indicates 41% have no change in their beliefs about a successful outcome.

1. The American Legion is only interested
in the suvival of their organization, war is merely a membership drive to them.

The American Legion does not understand America, typical RW authoritarians.

I like the VFW better.

3. That is an interesting observation
and I share your feelings about the two organizations. I'm a member of both the VFW and the American Legion. I always found it ironic that the Vets who saw combat, ie VFW, are more left leaning than the Legionnaires. The Legionnaires do not require a combat tour for membership and as a result many, if not most of them, do not share the combat experience. Yet they are the most right wing leaning bunch of the veteran's organizations. My VFW post is a hotbed of dissent and I love it. They've been there, done that and are not fooled by all the flag waving, saber rattling rhetorics of the AL.

At this time both organizations are in a fight for their very survival. Recruitment drives are fierce. The VFW has recently been giving free memberships to returning veterans. This is good because there is much that these organizations can do to help returning vets to get the benefits and help they need.

2. Nice to see Utah waking up a bit
Although it will still be a while for them to wake up entirely I would guess.
