After watching the Discovery Channel's "Surviving Katrina"...

...I would have to say that Spike Lee's work is better. This seems like a very sanitized version of events that certainly lets all the political and bureaucratic culprits off of the hook with great ease.

The stories are interesting but everytime they get to the part of the timeline discussing official response, it is woefully inadequate. They're also not mentioning things like: troops "not being able to get in" when it came to rescuing folks, but they certainly appeared out of nowhere when it was timeto start shooting folks in the streets, or the cops who went on as big a crime spree as the other citizens commandeering a hotel as their central lair to horde all of their ill-gotten booty.

appropriate word. Spike Lee's documentary will be recognized as the definitive work on Katrina.

2. I have not seen Spike Lee's work but was touched by the Discovery version

I don't know if I could stomach anything more graphic but will try to see it.
Everyone should know what a disaster the aftermath of that storm was and still is.

4. Granted...

...there were some good stories on the Discovery show. I think it has its own value but it seems to take a "safe" route when discussing a lot of aspects of the tragedy.

I guess that's what you have to do in such politically polarized times when you're owned by major corporations and marketed to the American mainstream.
