Abu Ghraib Emptied -- Cropper, Bucca, and Suse the New Gulags
Abu Ghraib Empty, Iraqi Official Says
August 27th, 2006 @ 7:18pm

By RAWYA RAGEH
Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Abu Ghraib prison, whose name became synonymous with abuse, has been emptied of detainees, a senior Iraqi justice ministry official said Sunday.

The U.S. military said a transfer of nearly 3,000 detainees from Abu Ghraib to other detention facilities run by the military was planned. But it would not comment on the timing of the transfer.

Ibrahim said the detainees at Abu Ghraib were moved to a new $60 million detention facility that has been built as part of Camp Cropper near Baghdad International Airport. Detainees in Fort Suse will be moved to Camp Cropper and Camp Bucca, which is near the southern port of Umm Qasr, he said.

More than 13,000 detainees are being held at coalition facilities, in Camps Cropper, Bucca, and Fort Suse. Many detainees are awaiting trial, others formal charges.

2. Iraqi officials go along with the orders of
the Busholini Regime because they are being paid by that Regime. Without the US Military protection these Iraqi officials would be dead.

4. Is this how we liberate the Iraqi people
by building a 60 million dollar prison, have they spent 60 million on helping the Gulf Coast
victims, I heard that they promised to send 80 million for rebuilding housing, but NOTHING
has been sent, but the 60 million dollar prison in Iraq has been built. Bully for George.
Bully for Rumsfeld and Bully for all GOP idiots who prop up this nonsense.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Pentagon said on Saturday that it transferred five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba to Afghanistan, leaving about 445 detainees at the controversial site.

The Pentagon said in a statement posted on its web site that "These detainees were all recommended for transfer due to multiple review processes conducted at Guantanamo Bay."

About 120 of the remaining 445 detainees may be eligible for transfer or release pending a series of reviews, the statement said.

"With this transfer, approximately 315 detainees have departed Guantanamo for other countries," the statement said.
