A freeper commented on my Cindy Sheehan vid...
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 07:52 PM by Texas Explorer
I received notice in my email that someone had commented on my Cindy Sheehan/Camp Casey III video on YouTube.

Brief background info: The Cindy that she sacrificed her son to what she believes is an unjust war in Iraq. She simply wants an answer to the question "For what noble cause did my son die?".

The post is as follows:

Cindy sacrificed her son?

What a crock, he was an adult that signed up for duty and then re-enlisted. Casey was no child being sent there by his mom, he was an adult making an adult decision.

YouTube only allows a 500 character responses, so I thought I'd post my response to this person here:

Very true. Perhaps a poor choice of words? Perhaps propoganda? I was there and I choose to believe it was simply the speaker's way of intimating her loss.

When someone is speaking off the cuff, sometimes things just don't come out right. Just ask President Bush. Having been at Camp Casey, I can tell you that NO ONE is focussed on anything OTHER THAN the REASON her son, and many others, died. ALL of the attendees of Camp Casey believe that the war in Iraq was unjust and the president confirmed that on Monday, Ausgust 14 when, during a press conference, he admitted that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, thereby rendering it inconsistent with the "War on Terror".

So, Cindy's question to Bush is: "For what noble cause did my son die?". She has decided that the answer to this question is the closure she needs to move on with her life. She has tried repeatedly to make an appointment with the president. All the while, the president has completely ignored her while Republican Rocky Vaccarella drove a FEMA facsimile trailer from St. Bernard Parrish, LA, all the way to DC, calling to the countryside like Patrick Henry about wanting to thank the President for all the trailers he sent to the Gulf region. Not only did he (allegedly) not have a scheduled appointment with the president, the president sent his Katrina point man out to munch on mud bugs and get a feel for the guy. The next morning, Rocky got his meeting with the president, and a press conference too.

I'll leave you decide with your own mind and your own heart whether or not you truly believe what I infer from your post as having a fundamentally skewed opinion of Cindy Sheehan based on your political philosophies and affiliation. She is simply a mother who wants to know that her son was sacrificed, indeed, for a noble cause. Can you blame her?

1. The freeper is missing a point.
The military targets the youth for a couple of reasons:
(a) They are strong, fit, better able to deal with the rigors.
(b) Minds in formation, therefore better shaped into the needed mindset.
Which is all well and done. The nation needs a well trained Armed Forces, and it is quite stupid to try to get rid of it - we wouldn't last 10 minutes, since Canada and Mexico would carve us up like Russia and Germany did with Poland.
However, families willingly use their influence on their members, and allow them to participate in this activity on one condition:
(c) That the leadership committed to this task is educated, moral, and honest with the soldiers.
When this is broken, the bond of trust between the populace and officer corps (which includes, by extension, the elected civilian leadership) is violated, and then the enlistment becomes one made under false pretenses.
In other words, Cindy Sheehan's crusade is couched on these concepts, and the fact that it was her SON that was taken in this misbegotten adventure lends her special authority.

It is good to study philosophy. You will find many answers to why you have that uneasy feeling about how things are going - your intuition points at a truth, and all you need is to be able to verbalize it.
