Attack on Iran is Coming
What made me certain - two far-right memes have been launched into the mainstream:

- "Islamic Fascists"
- "Convert or Die"

On the anniversary of September 11th B*sh will warn of a "nuclear 9/11" and the base and other gullible people will lap it up.

There will continue to be a steady drip-drip of psyops (as per previous to both Gulf Wars).

Then early next year, before the heat of the summer, he will launch a nuclear version of "shock and awe" on Iran.

His Saudi oil backers will be happy to see another Shi'ite powerhouse knocked back 20 years, and with Iran's oil output reduced the price of oil will skyrocket, making other oil producers a fortune.

Far-right Israeli interests will be happy too to see an anti-semitic regime knocked down.

Freepers will be happy to see "mooslims" massacred and the Rapture crowd will be salivating at the prospect of an early Armageddon.

Of course Halliburton will clean up too (both literally and financially) in the aftermath.

1. That's the #1 reason why the DEMS must take back CONGRESS
I don't think Bush & Co can last until next summer.

2. If we take back congress, Bush will become a lame duck, which...
is what has to happen to save the country. He CANNOT start any more wars or pass any more tax cuts without the congress.

Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 03:14 PM by enigma000
Iran does go nuclear, it will be under the next administration - let's say 5 years from now. A Democratic President and congress would have to deal with this. It might be easier to let Bush deal with Iran and the consequences next year.

After everything goes to hell, Democrats could run on "no more wars" as a 2008 slogan.

12. If the Iranians attack another country, they're toast, but...
...if they do not attack any other country, even if they'd possess atomic power, I repeat: if they do not attack other countries, I say they have the right to defend themselves like every other sovereign nation against any imperialist aggression aimed at stealing that damn oil they've got.

now...

to sow fear among voters - and try to win the elections.

11. Intriguing.
I've been thinking after the elections, but if they come to the conclusion that they're going to lose the House, why not launch before? They won't take it to the Congress in either case. They don't believe they have to. Dubya's the "War President", after all. He has unlimited powers. Torture Boy has already checked it out for him.

9. The LAST thing this country needs is another war with a major......
oil producer. We have TOTALLY alienated Venezuela and war with Iran is NOT only unwarranted over their involvement in nuclear research, but it will lead to oil and gas prices that will likely send the US economy into a depression. Is foreign diplomacy dead with this completely incompetent administration? U.S. elections and the transfer of power to a sane administration and sane legislative body can not happen fast enough. If anyone thinks an Middle East Arab Muslim nation will allow a Western Christian/Anglo-Saxon Nation to occupy it, think again, it will never happen, as we have seen........

13. Islamic fascists is a term that has been around for years
In fact, that sot Hitchens was actually one of the ones that got it circulating, though he did not originate it.
History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Klonimus/Islamofascism

Although the exact origins of the term are murky, it appears to have been coined either by Khalid Duran, Stephen Schwartz or Christopher Hitchens. The coining or popularisation of the term is frequently attributed to Christopher Hitchens, a prominent critic of Islamic Fundamentalism, based on his article in The Nation immediately following the 9/11 attacks, where he used the phrase "Islamic fascism". <1>. Hitchens also used the phrases "Islamic fascism" and "theocratic fascism" to describe the fatwa declared against Salman Rushdie for writing The Satanic Verses.

After the 9/11 attacks, the concept of "Islamic fascism", later shortened to "Islamofascism", took root in the blogosphere, to explain or describe the ideology of the attackers. Islamofascism is popular term among neoconservative blogs such as Little Green Footballs.

More history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamofascism_%28term%29

The origins of the term are unclear, but appear to date back to an article, "Construing Islam as a language", by Malise Ruthven that appeared on September 8, 1990 in The Independent, where he wrote:

Nevertheless there is what might be called a political problem affecting the Muslim world. In contrast to the heirs of some other non-Western traditions, including Hinduism, Shintoism and Buddhism, Islamic societies seem to have found it particularly hard to institutionalise divergences politically: authoritarian government, not to say Islamo-fascism, is the rule rather than the exception from Morocco to Pakistan.

The Guardian attributes the term to an article by Muslim scholar Khalid Duran in the Washington Times, where he used it to describe the push by some Islamist clerics to "impose religious orthodoxy on the state and the citizenry".<3>

Radio talk show host Michael Savage has used the term "Islamofascism" frequently on his program (<6>) and in his books (Liberalism Is A Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions, Chapter 2—Unmasking Islamofascism, ISBN 1-5955-5006-2). The context suggests the invocation of Islam to justify fascist-like activities....

I pay attention to the news, and I haven't heard "convert or die"--convert to, or from, what?

The truth of the matter is this: we don't have enough troops to handle Iraq and Afghanistan, never mind take on Iran--at least not alone. We'd need to crank up the draft machine, open up a few more boot camps around the country, and get real busy before before we could contemplate going into Iran. Or find a few allies with huge standing armies willing to do the scut work for us, while we do the bombing.

Otherwise, the only other way to after them is with an air war (either conventional or tac nuke)...and that wouldn't work on its own. There's too much infrastructure; that country is quite huge. And the international community would have our asses fried in oil if we used tac nukes willy nilly in an offensive manner.

Where are these boots on the ground coming from? Where's the draft? That will be your first clue that something like what you propose is coming.

We simply do not have the forces to prosecute a war without one.

18. Any Imam, mullah or Ayatullah would agree that those horseshit
demands for conversion aren't authentic and don't count. In Islam, you are allowed to lie your ass off to save your life--as an example, if you are Shi'a, you can pretend to be Sunni if being known as Shi'a could get you killed, and vice versa. It's actually in the Koran that this is hunky dory to do.

The 'convert or die' demand makes me believe even more strongly that this kidnapping was done by a bunch of rank fucking amateurs, gun toting wannabees, nitwit Muslim goobers, who actually wanted a ransom, and didn't realize who they'd captured. Once they figured it out, and realized they'd screwed up by getting someone who was TOO high profile, they figured they'd make a demand, pull some shit, and let them go. A total gang that couldn't shoot straight, a bunch of asshat clowns: http://english.ohmynews.com/articleview/article_view.asp?no=313727&rel_no=1

A video released earlier showed the two making various pronouncement including an apparent statement of conversion by Centanni to Islam. He explained after his release that he felt coerced into making the statements, as his captors wielded firearms.

A previously unknown group calling itself the "Holy Jihad Brigades" had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, but senior Palestinian security officials said the name was merely a front for local militants whose identities were known to Palestinian authorities. The group had demanded the release of unspecified Muslim prisoners within 72 hours, a demand the U.S. officially rejected. The deadline passed before news of the release became available.

At a press conference with the journalists at the hotel, Haniyeh confirmed the kidnappers were from Gaza and not members of al-Qaida, as had been claimed.

"The kidnappers have no link to al-Qaida or any other organization or faction," Haniyeh said. "Al-Qaida as an organization does not exist in the Gaza Strip."

The drip is becoming more frequent even here.

Have you noticed the elevation of Ahmadinejad (who is essentially a elected government spokesman for a right-wing theocracy) to the level of 'psycho' 'dictator' 'tyrant'.

A Shia Limbaugh he may be, but a Shia Hitler he is not.

The disturbing story in the detailed Bamford article concludes with these words:

In the end, the work of Franklin and the other members of Feith's secret office had the desired effect. Working behind the scenes, the members of the Office of Special Plans succeeded in setting the United States on the path to all-out war with Iran.
