Am I on the No-Fly list?

And if so...how do I know before I fly? Does anyone know if there's site where you can check to see if one's name is on the list?

Thank you in advance,
JB

1. You won't know until you've been refused permission to board.
They want to keep it that way.

3. Seems very secretive
The bad guys would just find alternative ID's or get someone who wasn't on the list.

Hmmm...I wonder if we can put in a Freedom of Information request?

Thanks BaldGuy and Tom!

5. Just a thought on this
If you have your ticket, boarding pass etc. then you are refused admittance on the plane, can you get a refund for your ticket? Anyone know?

6. Yeah
Very good question. And once you're on it, how do you get off? Or is that a secret as well?

;)

4. Don't go poking into it.
That's sure to put you on "The List". Only terrorists are curious about such things.

7. The TSA has been known to make mistakes..
It's like your credit report - you check it periodically to make sure the information is correct....BEFORE you go to apply for a home loan or something important. Why not this?

16. You can fix your credit report.
If you get on a TSA no-fly list, they don't tell you what caused you to be listed and there's no way to get off.

I guess someone at HSS read Kakfa's "The Trial" and thought it was just a dandy idea on how to organize things.

19. And isn't that just a part of being in a FREE society?
secret lists and no way to get off.

Amerika, land of the free and home of the brave my ass.

18. Sorry, it was just a lame update of an old joke
Back in the 1970s when people were writing in to the FBI to get their files, the joke was if they didn't have one one you, they would start one.

9. Sen Kennedy was at one point
He had it taken care of, but if it were you or me, we would not be flying, I assure you....

12. At what cost and/or by what constraint?
Did it cost him $$ or just particular vote(s)? Some would believe that Wellstone didn't negotiate with terrorists and paid the ultimate price...or was Edward a failed target? Curious (fundies believe the devil makes one curious) minds want to know....

They hate us for our freedoms ... so they're taking them away. :grr:

14. there's no way to find out
in advance. I have a friend who has a similar name to somone on the list, and he still deals with it, every time, despite having a letter from DHS saying that he is not the same guy as the one on the list, takes him a good extra hour at the airport every time.

15. My buddy John was on the list.
They held him up for a few minutes while they checked him out. Apparently it was a different John Jones who is the terrorist. Who'd of thought there could be more than one Jones in this country?

17. How about applying for a passport?
Mind you I don't know, but it seems to me that passport applications would probably be checked against that list. If the app gets denied, well there ya go.
