I really wish our Team would fight harder.
God I hate to use the sports analogy, but, our team sucks. I'd like to blame it on the coach, but it's the team, they're not fighting hard enough for us.

There is a disconnect between we, and the DNC. I don't see anyone up there with damn few exceptions who is like me, or represents my desires, which are simple. I don't see any members of our team hanging around here talking to us. Don't we count? We the fans? We the Democratic MAJORITY in America?

Where are our fighting Democrats who should be screaming in the president's face? Where is our opposition party? Am I supposed to just be happy with the current crop of Democratic representatives and not be critical? Am I just asking for too much?

The republicans don't obey the rules, but we try to and we get trampled every time. The republicans don't play nice, but we try to, and then we wonder what happened?

Am I being too dramatic and too demanding of our Democratic leaders?

Here's an example: The bush war is a disaster and a clusterfuck, yet there are many prominent Democrats who still seem to think it can be resolved logically and happily somehow. Instead of demanding an immediate pullout from disaster, they try to reason with the war pigs, try to negotiate and appease them, and try desperately not to look like the cowards they are accused of being.

Instead of constantly trying to cover their own asses and get re-elected, I wish some of them would go out on a limb and say political career be damned, it's time to fight these fuckers hard.

I really wish they'd take a hard left turn, and start getting publicly pissed and righteously enraged and fight back against these dangerous maniacs.

Where are the people like you and I? I want them to come over here and talk to us, we are Democrats too, just because we aren't mainstream DNC types doesn't mean they can't come over here and drop us a line, seriously. We write them all the time, and they never write back.

They could learn a lot by stopping by DU and we could give them a lot of great ideas if they'd listen, and stop worrying about losing their cushy jobs and fight for us.

Anyway, too much coffee.

1. It's the coach, actually
that cadre of wonks within the beltway who strategize and advise and generally screw up every campaign out there by telling them they can't go out there and sound like Democrats because it might offend the Repuglicans.

They're the guys who are chasing that mythical swing voter who is going to abandon years of defining himself as a Repug and vote Dem because golly gee whiz, there really isn't that much of a difference any more, is there?

Meanwhile, the Dem base will continue to sit out election after election.

Yay team.

12. The Dem base will continue to sit
out election after election. There in lies the problem.

2. You assessed inaccurately. EVERY Dem says there IS NO GOOD CHOICE on Iraq.

There isn't a one who thinks it can be solved happily.

You don't have to INVENT a story to make your point.

And I'd say that Chairman Dean IS organizing the DNC to be stronger and tougher FINALLY, and many other Dems in office have been hitting hard at BushInc and their policies.

The corpmedia doesn't want YOU to hear any of that.

The Dem STRATEGISTS, though, are full of shit, and misdirect the candidates' attention AWAY from the media problem and away from the election fraud problems. That way they can pay their mortgages with their brilliant advice to move to the center while embracing populist rhetoric and tones that hide corporatist leanings.

4. They have all our e mail addresses!
When is the last time you received one that said flat out "All these Bastards are full of shit!"? They are pussyfooting & I believe Warpy accurately stated the issue. We need to be aggressive, the public views the Repuibliclowns as tough on terror and good on National Defense because of their bellicose manner and tough talk whether it is hollow rhetoric or not.

3. Seems as though they're trying to do it
(win the fight**) all by themselves... and not very loudly either.

**I presume they're doing the right stuff. Occasionally I hear what seems like a good plan out of them, then silence... It "seems" like they're trying to win World War II--using the existing military (as it was pre-Pearl Harbor) and not bothering to mobilize the whole country. I hope I'm wrong--and I could be, I remain "out of the loop" (extenuating circumstances here, but I seem to see many other Democrats hanging about not knowing what to do to contribute as well--they/we seem to need "leadership"; and that seems very short in supply).

8. Sadly many of our Democratic Representatives are invested in the WAR
MACHINE corporations up to their eyeballs.

Please remember that it was NOT The Democratic Party that helped us to STOP the Madness in Vietnam. No, there were several hawks in The Democratic Party then to keep us off balanced.

What got us out of Vietnam was THE PEOPLE protesting and other forms of civil disobedience. Our Illustrious Democratic Leaders KNEW then that their political butts would NOT be re-elected if they did not change their positions.

That is exactly what it will take to get Our Representatives to do "The Right Thing." Give them a true impression that they will NOT KEEP THEIR JOBS and they will change their tune, post haste. Although they are our beloved politicians, please don't forget that they ARE POLITICIANS. ;)

11. There is a distinction in my thinking...
between the collection of common people. The people who tend to be Democrats, in favor of Progressive thinking, Liberal in their outlooks and ideologies versus the elected Democrats/Democrat "Party"... It does seem that the political party "leadership" tends to always have a few fragrant apples that manage to create a train-wreck of the rest--especially when it comes to "wars".

And, um, my post wasn't really referencing the "War" (any "War", Vietnam, IRAQ, ...), but rather the struggle we face against the Republicans, and it merely meant that the DNC wasn't really utilizing the whole Democratic base to anywhere near the extent that it could have.

6. Every team has a sponsor and it's the sponsors as
well as the coaches. Since the two major political teams, Republicans and Democrats, are dependent upon the same sponsors the Democrats, hoping to regain control of at least one branch of government are loath to upset their sponsors. If sponsorship changed so that the parties were more dependent upon the masses of working people to fund campaigns maybe, just maybe they would listen to us and take our concerns to heart.

Until a more fair system of funding campaigns is enacted little if anything will change.

7. Money talks.
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 10:25 AM by Eric J in MN
If "Democratic Underground" has an Act Blue page like "The Daily Kos," then more politicians would come here and interact with us.

John Kerry sometimes posts at "The Daily Kos."

9. I agree.
We should have a fundraiser page to show our ability to raise money.

13. The party has abandoned us
They're perfectly content being the number-two power in Washington, and provide just enough resistance to keep most Dems happy and prevent the emergence of a third, truly progressive party. No matter who wins in November, they are two dogs serving the same master, and I don't trust either of them. Only when we rise up and form a third party we can begin the revolution that the country so badly needs and deserves. My only question is, we CANNOT allow them to come back into power, but how?

14. You want Democrats to be stopped and NOT ALLOWED BACK IN POWER?
While what? While third parties help to keep Republicans IN power?

Are you all so used to getting Republican dollars that you now believe that you will better MATCH them if only you can be the counter party instead of Democrats?

Republicans will stop funding you if you were ever a REAL threat to them. They only fund you now so you THINK you're bigger shots than you are while you're targeting the Democrats.

15. I think you misread it (or I mistyped it)
I want REPUBLICANS stopped and not allowed back in power. Democrats are a better alternative, but not my much. sorry for the confusion.
