Minutemen want immigrant deported

CHICAGO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A border security advocacy group has called on a single mother holed up in a Chicago church to come out and be deported to Mexico.

The woman, Elvira Arellano, has been in a United Methodist Church since Aug. 15, refusing to surrender to federal authorities for deportation, the Chicago Tribune reports.

While in the church, her lawyers filed a lawsuit on behalf of her 7-year-old son, Saul, a U.S. citizen. The suit charges his rights would be violated if Arellano, who entered the United States illegally, is deported.

The group, known as the Minutemen Project, calls this claim nonsense.

Plus I lost the link about how the Border Patrol chief in Laredo, TX, does NOT want any "help" from the Minutemen when they do their Fall charade there. He won't even return their calls for a chat.

Wonkette: if the Border Patrol is short handed, why not call out the Minutemen? You know, the more-bark-than-bite nationalist “movement” that, according to the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center, Jerry Seper and the Washington Times largely invented out of the ether? Mind you, we’re not complaining. We’re big fans of making mountains out of molehills...

http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=635

Anti-Immigration Movement
Newspapers Inflated Minuteman Numbers, Report Finds
Moon's paper and the Minutemen

The report, "Creating the Minutemen," is based on an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) analysis of 581 articles and editorials printed in major U.S. newspapers between January 2005 and February 2006. The ACLU has been highly critical of the Minutemen, and ACLU volunteers closely monitored the group.

The first of those articles, "Volunteers Set to Monitor Border Crossings," by Jerry Seper of the hard-right Washington Times, reported that 240 volunteers had signed up. By early March, Seper was reporting that the number of volunteers had "more than tripled," came from every state, and included 16 pilots with aircraft.

During the last two weeks of March 2005, the media hype shifted into overdrive. Fifteen journalists reported the Minuteman Project had signed up "at least 1,000 volunteers." The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin ran a March 23, 2005, article headlined "2,000 volunteers expected for Minuteman Project."

Border Patrol chief doesn’t want Minutemen near agents (Laredo, Texas)

LAREDO MORNING TIMES ^ | 08/24/2006 | MIGUEL TIMOSHENKOV

The head of the Border Patrol said Wednesday he doesn’t want members of the Minuteman Project working near his agents when they come to the Laredo area next month. The civilian group, which reports illegal immigrants to immigration authorities, is expected to start patrolling the border in the Laredo area on Sept. 11 and continue through Nov. 7.

Acting Chief Patrol Agent Reynaldo Garza of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Laredo Sector said he can’t prevent the civilians from coming to Laredo, but said they won’t be allowed to interfere with official business. ....

Esquivel said that if U.S. citizens should have any trouble with a member of the Minuteman Project, he or she should call the sheriff’s department or other law enforcement authority.

State Rep. Richard Raymond deplored the group’s plan to come to Laredo.

“They don’t have anything to do with this community,” Raymond said. “Here, we reject the racism they practice.” ....

The one they covered had a program, "Operation Ranch Rescue". Big fat Freepers. They accidentally kill each other, they get into power struggles with themselves, they are arrested for abusing travelers they "detain", they are thrown in jail for having illegal weapons.

No wonder the Border Patrol doesn't want anything to do with these wackos.

I realize that the Moonie Times and the last link are reichwing sites but even they see the whack-job MinuteMen as idiots who can't handle money nor fulfill promises.

Oh and deporting the mother of son who is a US citizen will solve nothing! Reichwingers attack the defenseless. It is so typical.

18. Feuding Minutemen only united on border woes
Wed Aug 16, 3:08 PM

By Tim Gaynor

PHOENIX (Reuters) - More than a year after their first stakeouts on the U.S.-Mexico border, Minuteman civilian patrol volunteers are divided and questions are being raised about whether their movement's influence is on the wane.

The Minutemen leaped into the media spotlight in April 2005 when its force of housewives, office workers and veterans camped out in lawn chairs in southern Arizona to spot illegal immigrants crossing from Mexico.

Sixteen months later, the founders of the movement have split acrimoniously, and questions swirl over how a breakaway group spent a reported $1.6 million in donations.

U.S. prepares to pick border shield builder

By Dave Montgomery
MCT NEWS SERVICE

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is expected to choose an industry consortium next month to erect a high-tech security shield along the U.S. borders, launching one of the federal government's most ambitious public-works projects in years.

The Department of Homeland Security calls the proposed Secure Border Initiative Net the "most comprehensive effort in the nation's history" to gain control of more than 6,000 miles of border with Mexico and Canada as well as 2,000 miles of coastline...."

is that if the government and the current chimp lead administration were doing their jobs there wouldn't be the need for these knuckle draggers.

If we had a comprehensive and workable program in place people could come to the US legally to work and be treated fairly.

The lady in the church is here illegally and should be treated as such. Using the current law if she is found in violation she should be deported.

Don't fool yourself into thinking they wouldn't be around if the immigration problem was settled. 100 years ago their counterparts formed the KKK. 50 years ago, they fought against integration. Unfortunately, bigots are part of our American culture.

The lady in the church is a desperate poor woman with a child to feed. Would you be willing to break the law to take care of your child? I know I would. I also refuse to judge her. What harm has she done? If she hadn't taken care of her child, she would be condemned for neglect. She really can't win for losing. I think it is cruel and inhumane to deny her and her child the opportunity to be productive citizens in this country.

24. I once knew an English couple who entered this country
illegally with their two children from Canada. In the meantime while living and working here, the wife had another baby in the USA. Well, they were caught, but the immigration ruled that because the baby was an American citizen that he deserved to have his parents with him and because the older brother and sister also needed their parents, they too deserved to have their parents, so the whole family was issued Green Cards on that ruling. They all eventually became citizens.

But I have noticed that the INS is not so generous in their rulings with immigrants from the southern border. I wonder why? This couple are not the only immigrants who got their Green Cards because they had an American born child that I know of but they all came here through Canada from northern Europe. Is there any possibility of getting the INS records on these rulings? I think they are showing dispicable bias.

any support they offer.

They are putting a bunch of people on both sides of the border in harms way.

They are being used to bilk $ from their fellow racists and also, maybe just some people who don't realize what a nonproblem this is.

None of the 9/11 hijackers were from Juarez.

34. Here's a source about these guys that I trust for the truth.
http://www.splcenter.org/intel/news/item.jsp?aid=13

DOUGLAS, Ariz. | April 22, 2005 -- For months, Jim Gilchrist promised that his Minuteman Project would peacefully observe the Arizona border as a protest against illegal immigration. Volunteers — he said there would be 1,300 of them — would be carefully screened, with FBI help, to keep out white supremacists and racists. No one would be allowed to bear guns except those who had permits to carry concealed weapons.
Gilchrist said that critics who called his group "vigilantes" — naysayers who included President Bush — were absolutely wrong about his volunteers.

Indeed, Gilchrist told USA Today, these men and women sought only to bring attention to a major social problem. Most were "white Martin Luther Kings."

Maybe so. But Gilchrist's accuracy has been less than sterling. More at link

These guys have close ties to the Stormfront organization which is a blanket organization for most White Supremist groups, although now they are trying to distance themselves from the neo-Nazis because it gives them bad press.
