TOON: Sunday's Doonesbury ("History Here To See You, Sir")
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 12:52 AM by Hissyspit
So reminiscent of Trudeau's appropriate (and at the time, innovative) comics page attacks on Nixon back when Trudeau first started. Deja Vu all over again. And, boy, does * deserve it. (...although, I think there should be a fart joke in the dialogue.) As usual when he does a good one, a few votes for Greatest Page so others can find. Thanks.

2. Very good
but I suspect that when History comes to visit, it will not wait politely for entrance, but rather, will come in with a battering ram.

3. THey will have to create a new grade for Chucklenuts.
Buchanan, Grant, Harding and Nixon got the "F" grade from historians, but Chucklenuts makes them look like the Fantastic Four.

They will have to give him a new grade. Chucklenuts will be the first pResident to get a "G"

4. I wonder how close to the truth that may actually be?
It never surprises me when any of these puffed up, faux-macho, gay bashing jocks turns out to be a flaming homo as well. I could almost actually feel sorry for the man if all of this was a result of family learned self hatred.

Almost.

5. Check out this site for info on Gay Bush
http://mindprod.com/politics/bushismsgay.html just scroll down

Samples though the photos are good
“In all due respect, you’ve got a beautiful face and everything.”
~ George W. Bush to Brit Hume in a Fox news interview.
“Well, you got a pretty face. You got a pretty face. You’re a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway.”
~ George W. Bush to Scott Reid Prime Minister of Canada Martin’s assistant, reported in the Toronto Globe and Mail.
Bush was close with “his Scott”, press secretary Scott McClellan, who hung out in gay clubs in Austin Texas.

/snip

Consider how few gay signals former Governor James McGreevy gave out when he was in the closet compared with how many Bush is giving out. Bush has lost the ability to control himself. He is broadcasting gaydar at 100,000 watts.
Consider how few gay signals the late J. Edgar Hoover gave out when he was in the closet compared with how many Bush is giving out. Hoover projected the same tough guy image Bush aims for, but managed to hide that he was both gay and a transvestite by intimidating others into silence.

There is a lot more on the site

14. Been saying this for years, have I. What could be more blatant??
Laura's public humiliation of his making her a "desperate housewife"; Jeff "How Many Trips in the Dead of Night?" Gannon; rubbing bald heads; "Your Scott has prettier eyes than my Scotty"; kissing and caressing men in receiving lines; the need to show off his (pardon my retching) "package"; well, come on, people.

Editing: I went to the doonesbury site - that last box isn't part of the cartoon apparently - so it makes more sense now. Was a little confused.

He just has no problem with exploiting them. Or anyone else, for that matter.

13. Unbelievable--toon was edited in my paper
Couldn't believe it! The word "gay" was removed from the Rochester NY Sunday paper! I had to go online to find out what it said. ("Any better and he'll think you're" was all it said.) I thought the missing word was something "treasonous", like "dead"--like how you're not supposed to imply you wish death on the prez.

Sheesh. It was bad enough that they recently moved Doonesbury off the front page of the comics section ("must bury the subversive toon")--I wonder how many Repubs complained before they made the switch--probably didn't take many. But now to actually edit the words?

We are indeed officially "Amerikka". Never thought I'd see the day. This is shameful.

17. I am SO tempted
But unfortunately I have a jobt at a kind of high-profile place 'round these parts. I'm weighing the peril of having my name attached to a LTTE. Sad, innit?

19. It's probably my imagination but
The Trib comics seem to combine the "subversive" stuff (Doonesbury, Candorville, Wiley's strip, ) on page 2 and that seems to often be the page with the sloppy printing problems (blurred text, sloppy coloring)
