A 58-year-old man enters a suicide pact with his wife of 22 years
He watches as his 61-year-old wife slashes her wrists with an 8-inch knife, but fails to kill herself. He takes the knife and stabs her to death. Then he turns the knife upon himself, plunging it deep into his torso three times, the third time coming within a quarter-inch of his heart. He ends up surviving.

When authorities arrive on the scene, they find a handwritten suicide note from his wife on the table: We are embarking on the next leg of our journey. You never die, you simply leave your body and move on. We have been planning this for some time.

The man is arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is eventually diagnosed with a mental illness. He ends up getting sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter.

Please read the article below and discuss.

2. Sounds familiar
"They built a world of their own," Jacobson said. "When the two of them isolated themselves, they kind of fed off each other. They were sure they were going to another place where people would be good and kind."

Sound familiar to anyone else?

All I know is that if I had called the above on DU
...folie a deux, a rare psychotic disorder in which two people share a common delusion.

I would be accused loudly and often about being a Christian basher. Should be interesting to see if others say this about the judge.

4. I think the sentence is much too harsh
Especially considering the man is mentally ill.

5. Maybe it should be labeled a hate crime?
They hated getting old, so they tried to kill themselves. The man should be executed for it!
