This job will go unfilled forever
http://www.ncesc.com/individual/jis/jobDetail.asp?JobOrder=NC5517747

Job Title: Physician III
Location: Lumberton, NC
Salary: $10,762 per year

I don't think that's a misprint, either. The Robeson County job board is full of cheap bastards, like the employer looking for an auto mechanic with a full set of tools and five years experience who will take $400 per week.

Working 52 weeks a year with eight hour days comes out to 10,712 before taxes.

5. Its for 150 days
accordng ot the job description. In that case you would make about $8.97 an hour. Guess you could go fast track on paying off that 80K in student loans.

9. What the "150 days" thing means
The North Carolina Employment Security Commission has two classes of jobs in its job bank: up to 150 days, and "over 150 days."

A "temporary" position can last up to 150 days. If the posting is for one of these jobs, they'll state how many days it is for. They've listed jobs in the past that were for one day--things like security for Sunday on the Square in Fayetteville. They've had three-day jobs, like security for Benson Mule Days. They get quite a few 90-day and 120-day positions, such as for farm work.

A permanent job is one that lasts at least 150 days. Those jobs are posted as "over 150 days."

This is a permanent job--one they can't even import a doctor to fill. If a doctor from Havana decided to defect to the US, he wouldn't work for eleven thousand a year.

Just sayin'...............

7. Just another one of those "new jobs" Junior's created since August 2003
... after destroying more than ten million jobs, that is.

It's probably in a fast-food franchise ... "Want fries with that?"

8. You spend god knows what
for a degree in medicine nowadays (probably $150-200K) and get out and take a 10K job? There better be some damn good perks. :eyes:

10. a grizzley would do that job for free
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 07:57 PM by sweetheart
sounds like a job for a vampire or a large carnivour like a
grizzley bear. Then all the patients would get their
conditions resolved and the hospital would have free beds
for any new patients that wanted treatment from the hairy doctor
with the big teeth and the bad breath...

11. Bout time to open up them borders and bring in some
less costly physicians. Of course the savings will go to profit er be passed on.

12. This makes me laugh.
For some reason I'm under the impression that the Hospital may be forced or coerced to seek employees through a job bank as well as regular sources. This may be away to fulfill those requirements without actually having to employee any of the "Job Bank" people.

16. If it's a state position, ESC is their "regular sources"
All state positions are filled exclusively through the Employment Security Commission. Go to http://www.ncesc.com; you'll find some damn good jobs there--I've seen $70,000/year positions advertised with regularity.

The fact that there's a number behind it leads me to believe it's a state position--probably at the Lumberton Correctional Institution, which is one of North Carolina's medium-security prisons.

There's two explanations here: it's a typo (which will still prevent them from filling the position until it's fixed, since state positions are advertised exclusively through ESC), or they want a doctor from Mumbai and H1B regs require they prove there are no Americans who can fill the position.

17. I bet its a typo too.
I don't believe they would ever expect to fill a physicians position for 10K. No one in their right mind would do it unless they were talking a couple of hours a week part-time. That would make more sense but not full-time.
