Republican excuse #2,319 for not serving in Iraq
Conversation with 25-year-old Republican co-worker:

Her: "It's a mess over there...we need to finish up what we started. I would go over there and serve myself if I could."

Me, frothing at lips: "Really? Why don't you?"

Pause.

Her: "Because my husband would divorce me and I don't want to get divorced."

Now there's a good reason. The fact that thousands of married soldiers are serving must have been a major boo-boo at the DOD. BRING THE MARRIED SOLDIERS HOME NOW!!!

cut

Staff Sgt. Jason Rivera, 26, a Marine recruiter in Pittsburgh, went to the home of a high school student who had expressed interest in joining the Marine Reserve to talk to his parents.

It was a large home in a well-to-do suburb north of the city. Two American flags adorned the yard. The prospect's mom greeted him wearing an American flag T-shirt.

"I want you to know we support you," she gushed.

Rivera soon reached the limits of her support.

"Military service isn't for our son. It isn't for our kind of people," she told him.

3. That article confirms my conversation with a young USAF relative
who signed up to work in intelligence...and is getting shipped to Iraq to look for IEDs.

"They're just throwing money at the problem...turning the Armed forces into mercs. I didn't sign up for this shit."

6. WTF is "our kind of people"?
Edited on Sat Aug-26-06 07:01 PM by Selatius
White rich people? It's all gravy as long as long as poor people die for rich men's wars, but the second you ask some of these "people" to get in the trenches along with the rest of us, it's asking a little bit too much.

Her-"Oh Mike can do more at home" me-"hmm, last time i checked there is at least 2.5 job openings a day in Iraq alone, some days it's even higher so he could really do more there instead of here at home" and thats when she usually goes back inside her house.

9. Better than an excuse I heard
"I would go, but I can't for medical reasons". And he never did mention what the medical reason was.
