Rummy, in Alaska, says he's not Santa Claus (for any who were confused)

Rumsfeld, in comments to reporters en route, praised the soldiers and said he would tell the families he appreciated their commitment. But when asked if he thought the soldiers' families had a right to be angry about the extended deployment, he said he did not "put it in that context."

"These people are all volunteers. They all signed up. They're all there doing what they're doing because they want to do it," he said. "They're proud of what they do. They do it very, very well."

"I'd love to be Santa Claus, but I'm not," he said when asked if the soldiers of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team would be home by Christmas.

The extended deployment poses a hardship for both troops who have been sent into one of the most dangerous areas of Iraq and their families in Alaska, who now face additional costs.

How would you feel expecting to have your husband or father home now, not only that they are
being sent for 4 months after their deployment ended but to hear that they may not be back home this year. And get a smarmy I'm no Santa, to boot, if I was one of those people I would march into the polling booth and vote straight democratic come November.

Just look at his eyes. Look at the left eye, with its vacant fixated stare. Now look at the right eye, with its insane glare, obviously looking at something or someone.....maybe a protester as he gets ready to throw them out.

It's pathetic what they did to the 172nd and their families. We've had lots of coverage of this here, especially how the moms had been having the little kids keeping track of when daddy would be home on their calendars, making promises to them, and then having to try to explain why it isn't true anymore. What a way to teach a child early that the government can't be trusted, although I'm sure in their little minds it probably translates to "mom can't be trusted." Pathetic.
