A veteran is one who has served, injured or not. As to your question, I am a veteran and I would never "swiftboat" a fellow veteran (or anyone else for that matter.) If a veteran has to resort to lies and smear campaigns to advance their agenda they ought to do the honorable thing and renounce their Veteran status, because a veteran wouldn't do that.
