James Petras: "The Liquid Bomb Hoax: The Larger Implications"

The Liquid Bomb Hoax: The Larger Implications

August 25, 2006

The charges leveled by the British, US and Pakistani regimes that they uncovered a major bomb plot directed against nine US airlines is based on the flimsiest of evidence, which would be thrown out of any court, worthy of its name.

An analysis of the current state of the investigation raises a series of questions regarding the governments’ claims of a bomb plot concocted by 24 Brits of Pakistani origin.

The arrests were followed by the search for evidence, as the August 12, 2006 Financial Times states: “The police set about the mammoth task of gathering evidence of the alleged terrorist bomb plot yesterday.” (FT, August 12/, 2006) In other words, the arrests and charges took place without sufficient evidence -- a peculiar method of operation -- which reverses normal investigatory procedures in which arrests follow the “monumental task of gathering evidence.” If the arrests were made without prior accumulation of evidence, what were the bases of the arrests?

The government search of financial records and transfers turned up no money trail despite the freezing of accounts. The police search revealed limited amounts of savings, as one would expect from young workers, students and employees from low-income immigrant families.

1. Clue that this was a clusterf*ck propaganda effort
The arrests were followed by the search for evidence

...because Bush leaned on the UK to make the arrests before they wanted to, so that he could strut around on an airport runway in Wisconsin and talk about how he had to take away more of our rights.

2. Airline stock was manipulated with also.
The trading pattern of the Airline stocks before and after raised the first doubts about the terror plot discovery.

The airlines stocks bounced back with the same money
that was raised shorting these stocks yesterday and before.
The biggest question now is who were the people who shorted these airlines stocks before the terror plot discovery and why are they so sure to buy them back at a 10% or more discount today?
Why indeed? These 'investors' had to know that the bombing plotters were incompetent and about to be thwarted, and that there would be no real risk to the industry. They also had to know that the 'plot' was going to be revealed, and that the resulting fear would affect stock prices.

4. The Brits were running a standard counter-terrorism sting operation,

complete with an agent provocateur, only to have it blown wide open prematurely by the ISI under pressure from the Bush Administration. See, http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/8/17/174059/211

Of course they didn't have adequate evidence to prove a criminal case against most of those eventually arrested - this wasn't designed to be a criminal case.

5. Curiously they arrested 24 people THEN found the bomb parts.
I'm sure that if I simply searched a single blocks worth of houses in the US I could surely assemble a terrorist plot from the collected evidence.

Do you have nail polish remover, hydrogen peroxide and drain cleaner in your house? How about any 2 of those? Maybe you have Oxy-clean, gasoline and a piece of syrofoam? The combinations of household chemicals that could be mixed to go boom is very large.

Now count out the first 24 people whose names come to mind. Can you assure yourself that NOT ONE of those people wouldn't falsely accuse you of terrorism in order to escape torture? How about if they could threaten to send their kids to Pakistan or Egypt to be tortured?

The problem with the Bush/Blair cabal is the world now knows they are torturing liars; nobody believes them. They've been pissing on us and calling it rain for years now and folks have wised up.

If there was a real terrorist plot they have created more by their actions. If there wasn't a real terrorist plot they have created more by their actions. Could they possibly get things more wrong?
