A month or so ago, the Democratic Party came out with goals it plans to push, should it take control of the House and the Senate this November. That plan can be found here:
http://www.dccc.org/...What do the Republicans plan to do if they should somehow retain the majority? Well, Bush can’t seem to let go of the destruction of social security
http://www.wistv.com/... . Other than that? I doubt even Karl Rove knows. One of the side-effects of the GOP’s increasing desperation is a debilitating political shortsightedness. They’ve been mining what policy they might have enacted after the election for political games to try to stave off defeat. The clearest example of this was their failed attempts at immigration reform.
Even if they win, good luck to them on resurrecting policy that has already succumbed to the election-year split between hardcore conservatives and “moderates”. What this means for us is that even if we don’t win either chamber, the GOP is dead in the water. Meanwhile, our momentum can be doubled and redoubled if we act as though the midterms never ended. Accountability and a new direction can be our theme straight through 2008. It will only grow more potent by the day.
