Atomic Vets: Government truth in advertising?

So, do you think Recruiters are going to have to start issuing a statement similiar to "This product may be hazardous to your health . . . ." when they swear people into the service?

Or should people just accept the fact that if a government can order you into a situation in which you have little or no chance of survival, you should also understand that they can do whatever else they want to your life? Afterall, once you've raised your hand and sworn, you ARE government property.

2. Some of us actually volunteer for hazardous duty
When I served in the Navy, submarine duty called for extra training, psychological and physiological testing. If you were able to pass the tests you could serve in "hazardous duty" and get an extra $135/month.

And once you were qualified, you could then try to become a Navy diver and get some more hazardous duty.

I worked only a few feet away from a nuclear reactor for years. And usually we were submerged to crushing depths. Pretty hazardous.

But a lot of guys would volunteer, regardless of what was promised. I think that a lot of us just thought that the U.S. Gov would take care of us and not just abuse us.

Apparently our trust was misguided.

5. I do not dispute such choices as long as they are *Freely* made.
That's a difficult condition to satisfy. Being free isn't as easily assumed as many people think it is. Many forms of Oppression are covert, so it takes more than people being willing to fight and die to stay free.

One of the most obvious and powerful forms of Oppression is Ignorance, another is Hate. How can we know we are NOT Free if we're Ignorant or blinded by Hate?
