Attackers Pummel Man's Face While Yelling Racial Slurs

POSTED: 11:43 pm EDT August 24, 2006

Investigators in Kissimmee, Fla., are searching for two men who took turns pummeling a 22-year-old man while yelling racial slurs and then leaving him on the side of a road, according to a Local 6 News report.

The victim's mother, Estella Vega, said her son was hanging out at Old Town on U.S. 192 in Kissimmee and missed his Lynx bus ride home.

David Romon said that as he began to walk home, two men attacked him on a sidewalk.

"They took turns; one of them would look, like a lookout, while the other was beating him," Vega said. "They told him, 'I want to kill you, I want to kill you; I hate Puerto Ricans because you don't have any money on you. I hate you."

Romon gave the men all of the money he had in his possession -- $1.50, the report said.

4. This makes me sad
I've been wondering lately what is wrong with people.

I remember when people didn't run red lights. It was very unusual to see someone just gun it through a red light. I remember when people were actually polite to one another in public. People didn't push and shove and break into lines. It wasn't all that long ago, either.

I've been trying to figure out what happened.

Perhaps it has something to do with the utter frustration the people feel, either blatantly or just subliminally. Frustration that comes from the cognitive dissonance of the teevee news vs. the reality we see around us. The people in charge are telling us to believe a LIE. One of the lies that they want us to believe is that if we are not rich and successful, its probably because we have to pay taxes to support "those people." Or that "those people" have come here and TAKEN our success from us.

We are fed a constant diet of fear. We are told to constantly be vigilant and aware of anyone that may be a possible "terrorist." How do you identify a terrorist? Someone who looks different.

So, they have mixed fear and frustration, added a healthy dose of racism and reinforced it daily with the "news."

And people act out. Some are just rude to the cashier at the grocery store, some act out more violently. Its disgusting.

Just an idea.

5. Unfortunately, in today's climate, this isn't surprising...
In the anti-immigrant (which translates into anti-Latino, immigrant or not), anti-anyone-who's-different fervor, these kind of attacks will probably continue to rise.

6. I agree.
It's why I never get sucked into the illegal immigration debate. I won't even discuss it until the present government is out of power because I think its related to fear and control techniques.
