Does Al-Queda REALLY care who's in charge?
I pose this question because apparently the GOP has decided to trot this issue out AGAIN (see Cheney's depiction of Ned Lamont as the "Al-Queda candidate" in the Connecticut Senate race) just like they successfully did in 2002 and in 2004 and will probably continue to do ad infinitum as long as it appears to be working regardless of the actual facts. However, as any well-informed person knows to be true, Al-Queda and other terrorist groups have struck at us regardless of whether the Democrats have been in power (Clinton) or the Republicans (Reagan, Bush II) have. Of course, the GOP may actually be undercutting (albeit accidentally) their very case because of their incessant election-season "fear-mongering." Even though Al Queda or "the terrorists" have apparently not been successful in hitting us again, the GOP keeps reminding us that Al-Queda et. al is still trying to hit us and indeed we have recently been media-fed a rash of newly uncovered "terror plots" to prove it. Whether they have been successful or not, doesn't the fact that the terrorists continue to attempt to attack us prove that terrorists don't really care who's in charge? After all, if terrorists were actually afraid of the GOP, they wouldn't even be trying to attack us, would they? I've personally always felt that the GOP has tried to have it both ways on the terror issue with the basic formulation of "Our country is vulnerable to future terrorist attacks and you need US to keep you safe but if you elect the Democrats to power we will be hit again....." Ultimately, we all know that this issue is a "red herring" and that the GOP will continue to use this attack as long as it appears to be profitable for them to do so but do you think that this tactic is going to work AGAIN this year (or against them)? The polls do not seem to be bearing out the effectiveness of this strategy....yet....but I remain worried that they will once again be able to eke out another (albeit small) victory using this strategy, especially if our side doesn't actively deflect or diffuse this "myth." We need to once and for all challenge and successfully eradicate this "myth" that Bin Laden/Al-Queda is sitting around in caves devilishly plotting to "influence" our elections or secretly (or not so secretly in the case of 2004 :eyes:) "endorsing" one party over another as being more or less "sympathetic" to their goals. By raising this issue, the GOP has inadevertantly exposed their actual glaring weaknesses on national security but nobody out there is really calling them out on it. We really need to point out the fact that our ongoing "vulnerability" to terrorist attacks belies their own weaknesses on the issue. At the very least it SHOULD undercut their argument that it really matters to Al Queda et. al who's in charge. Opinions? Thoughts?

1. And do we REALLY give a shit?
Screw al-Queda.

Pay real close attention to what happens after you turn your key in the ignition or when you step off the curb.
Or when you clamber up on the ladder to hang a picture.
Or step into the bathtub.

Ask your local actuary just what you should be worrying about.

2. I think we have to pay attention to Al-Qaeda
They've declared Jihad against ALL Westerners, so actually no Westerner is 100% safe, we ignore Al-Qaeda at our own peril.

5. "not been successful in hitting us again" (not quite true)
Al Queda or "the terrorists" have been successful in hitting us again. In fact, because of the idiot 'decider' and his "immune" Gangsters On a PNAC bunch of criminals, they've been hitting us again 24/7 in the last 5 years, and will continue to do so on a daily basis until January 2009 (if no impeachment of the whole cabal can't be passed a vote until then).

In fact, many say their murdering liars occupy the WH since the 2000 non-democratic selection, including me.

8. No, they don't
As far as Osama is concerned, the only good American is a dead American.

The does not understand, appreciate or care about the differences between a Republican and a Democrat (such as they are); for that matter, he does not understand, appreciate or care about the differences between Noam Chomsky and David Duke.

Even G. W. knows it. Dick Cheney knows it; and if he were an honest man, he would say so.
