Poll question: How did you find DU?
Just curious - I found this little slice of heaven last year after typing in "Hate Bush" in Yahoo..at the time it was about five or six down on the list - Cats and Dogs who hate Bush are still the top two but with all that has gone on, DU isn't on the first page anymore... but methinks that is a good thing for it appears there are more and more sites using those tag words. So, how did you find DU?

10. Wow....Kerry took you here..
I was wondering how much interest some of the Senators and Reps take into what goes on here. I have seen that Elizabeth Edwards has DU'd but it would be a serious talking point if they paid attention to the things being discussed here. There are many articulate, intelligent people that provide excellent insight and raise the important questions that need addressing - wouldn't it just be a kick in the pants is some of the ones who have a bit of influence used this forum as a sounding board?

I have a passing acquaintance (he effectively -- and fairly -- ended my career in the theatre 20 years ago). That linked to DU, and I've been here ever since.

And I've long since forgiven Bernie.

41. was referred from a forum on eBay in 2001 or 2002
that is one right-wing bunch over there and I got really tired of arguing with idiots and getting attacked and sabotaged--about 9 of us lefties posting on eBay started an e-mail round-robin among ourselves, which was really kind of neat--one person started coming over here and recommended it to the others--I thought I'd died and went to heaven after the put-downs and hassles over there--only 2 of us are here now AFAIK, I haven't communicated with the others for years. However, one of the RWers who had constantly attacked us soon e-mailed me to apologize and say I was right and she was dropping out of the whole eBay forum thing, too many idiots.

63. I never did give a crap much about politics, just informed
enough to vote fairly intelligently. I was not enamored of *, especially after he fu**ed an airplane, some good men, and our good name with China. By 2002 I didn't really understand why I was no pissed and in mortal fear for the future of the country, so I was hunting around the internet, a total neophyte, for something, anything to prove that I wasn't crazy and that surely there were others who thought as I.

I was hunting up impeachment and found impeachbush.com and then, in desperation started googling "democrat" and wound up here.
Being brand new to boards, it took me over a year to feel comfortable enough to post but I'm glad I did.

I felt like I was home.

81. ditto, catzies... Joined up in Feb, 2001...
was searching desperately for fellow progressives as depressed as I, as I watched the friggin "swearing in ceremony in January, 2001." You can damned well, be certain it was a "swearing" ceremony at my house, too. DU launched on that inauguration day. I can't remember now whether I found it that day (or a few days/weeks later after I "sobered" up}.

DU has its ups and downs and sadly, we've lost several of those "inaugural" members... but one thing for sure, it has saved the sanity of many a DEM/Progressive.

I kept hearing the phrase,"The left is Right and the Right is Wrong",
I absolutely loved it and at the same time I was in "Meet-Ups" and a member
(EDIT: I think meetups was after '04? ...losing braincells! lol! I can't remember now)
of ACT and I heard about this website http://www.liberaloasis.com/ and I
think it was in a comment there that I saw a link for Democratic Underground
and I liked that name as well, so I came over to check it out! ;)
I think I registered back then, but I used my computer at work. I lost all my
links, then I was layed off and forgot all about it. Then, I got another computer
and job, and I re-registered, after the '04 election. Whew!
That took a lot out of me!! I was all over the "internets", since 1998.
Many screennames, many sites, I forget most of them now! Always democratic or
anti-establishment. ;) I wasn't here during the election '04, and I wish I had
been but I was out knocking on doors with ACT, to "Get the Vote Out!"
;) TMI? Tuff titties!! lmao! :hippie:

(I'm pretty sure I mixed up some dates but I was a member here before '04.
I do know that!) Sucks getting older..... ;)

So I checked this board out and decided I liked it a lot better. I guess by CHB standards that makes me a depraved Partisan. I'll live.

which led to plastic.com which someone there mentioned

freerepublic.com which (of course) mentioned the

"communist traitors" at democraticunderground.com and here

I am. Lurked for about a year and a half and finally

joined.

I posted in lots of places, got stuck on DU. All the people blathering about "what if they find WMD" kept me coming back, still haven't gotten a real investigation into the war lies.

88. Invited by FR
I was doing some research on Tom DeLay and followed a link to FR. Not one to go near such sleazy neighborhoods, I realized that I had stumbled into political gutter I decided to have a little fun by registering with the name "GoreGotBushwacked" and asking a rather provocative question:

Hey, I'm new around these parts and I have a question, but first, some backgroud:

"A President-elect has 11 weeks to become informed in detail about the operations of the federal government before his inauguration on January 20. The“mechanics” of managing a transition — the tasks, deadlines, personnel decisions, budget and administrative procedures — generally occupy the initial phase of the transition process.

However, the President-elect must also begin to focus on making substantive decisions on policy issues. Campaign promises are reviewed to form a policy agenda. Soon after taking office, the new President must prepare a legislative agenda to present to Congress.

The importance of the transition process cannot be underestimated indetermining the ultimate success of an Administration. At least two authors advocatean “extended” transition that begins several months before the election and extends through at least the first session of Congress.

If a President-elect has successfully focused on a “short list” of priorities or objectives that he wants to accomplish, he can dominate policymaking to achieve his goals during the honeymoon period that normally follows a election. By concentrating on a few key issues soon after taking office, many observers believe the President-elect can establish a public perception that he is in command of an aggressive policy agenda."

http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL30736.pdf

My question is this: Whose responsibility was it in the 10 months between 11/26/99 and 9/11/01, to first work with the outgoing administration (he blew them off) and then, once sworn, to "faithfully execute the office of President of the United States"?

OK, another question: More importantly how has he, to the best of his ability, preserved, protected, and defended the Constitution of the United States, especially with regard, but not limited to, Iraq?

Damn! Another question!: Why did this administration fail to stop the events of 9/11 saying that "no one could have imagined airplanes being used as missiles and, so, we were caught competely by surprise"? Tell that to a WWII-era kamikaze pilot and to the US intelligence apparatus who, under the command of President William Jefferson Clinton, gathered crucial intel on the chatter of what would become 9/11 - which, during transition, your arrogant president and his unqualified henchmen completely ignored.

The only thing left for this president to do is to shave his head and complete his transition from a wily dog into Lex Luther, Ruler of Earth, with one foot in the Oval Office and one on the stilled, kryptonite-impaled chest of a American Flag-draped Superman, and proclaiming "Mission Accomplished!" But alas, thank God! Because this president can't seem to accomplish anything at all except failing in his ability, to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

How'd I do for a novice?

Was googling for political forums used by americans as i was wondering if they could have been all off their heads (~2005). Then after reading some posts there they were talking about 'dummies' or something along that line, then that lead me to here. Was relieved to know that not everyone in the US was as 'war loving' as them.

I happened to be watching C-SPAN one morning, and a lady caller mentioned this site. I ended up checking it out for awhile, just lurking and reading. One day, finally saw something that I wanted to respond to enough that motivated me to sign up. So I did. Ended up getting called a Freeper troll in one of my first ten messages. But it's gotten better since then :)
