Must Read: GOP TX 22's Write-In's Name is So Long, Voters Will Give Up
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 07:07 PM by Dems Will Win
E-Voting Machine Uses TRACKWHEEL To Type In Write-In Candidate's Name

BWAHAHAHAH! THis is just too ironic. The e-voting machines used in Delay's district in TX (District 22) are pictured above. The write-in candidate the GOP was forced to resort to--since Delay's name could not be removed from the ballot-- has a last name that is so long it will likely frustrate the voter's ability to remember it and spell it. On top of that, thanks to the progressive's friend, e-voting machines, voters will have to use a trackwheel to enter the letters of the name, most voters will find it too difficult and time-consuming to enter S-H-E-L-L-E-Y S-E-K-U-L-A--G-I-B-B-S!

As I said: BWAHAHAHAH!

The fate of the Congress, the country and the world could rest on the Dems winning Delay's old seat, creating what? IRONY. This is a great news story, if you ask me!

For TX GOP, Is Disaster Spelled S-H-E-L-L-E-Y S-E-K-U-L-A--G-I-B-B-S?
By Paul Kiel - August 22, 2006, 4:52 PM

After Tom DeLay dropped out last week, the Texas GOP was forced to try a Hail Mary, throwing their support behind a write-in candidate. But the candidate's name -- Shelley Sekula-Gibbs -- may be a problem.

In short, the Republican strategy is now this: tens of thousands of GOP voters will go to the polls on November 7, ignore the names printed on the ballot, and write in a hyphenated name of 20 characters (counting spaces). A long shot, for sure -- as the AP noted, only four candidates in U.S. electoral history have ever succeeded with a write-in campaign.

...

The eSlate machine does lack a keyboard, however -- users roll a trackwheel to choose letters on a screen. And unfortunately for Dr. S-G, there's no hyphen. So writing her name in is a bit of a chore. Judgments as to spelling will be made by "the counting judge," according to Amy Mitchell, an attorney with the Texas Secretary of State's office; such judgments tend to be lenient -- basically, if it "looks like" the name, it's counted as the name. Serious write-in candidates often lead to recounts, she said. Misspellings may well be the hanging chad of this election season.

...

Keep in mind that control of Congress may well hinge on this race. Which means the direction of the country could rest on whether or not enough Texas Republicans can remember a 20-letter hyphenated name and spell it using an awkward trackwheel device.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO RECOMMEND SO THIS GREAT, HYSTERICAL PIECE OF IRONY GETS OUT THERE. PERFECT OLBERMANN MATERIAL!

4. Yeah but....
It does kinda piss me off that they allowed such a stupid and non-democratic system for entering a write-in vote.

I'm happy the republicans get to pay the price in TX-22 - but I hope someone screams loud enough to retire that stupid technology for write-ins.

5. But the irony makes the point against current e-voting
in a very big way. This will be news, believe me. The irony is too great.

It will help our cause in more ways than one!

6. PRICELESS!!
Shelley better change her name to something short, simple and preferably phonetic -- if she expects to get any GOP votes.

8. NOTE THIS PART..
"Uh oh! But not to worry - we were assured by Josh Allen of Harter Intercivic that the actual machines have 25 characters, not a mere 18 as in the demo above. So her name will come in just under the limit."

Someone needs to get on it RIGHT NOW and see if the machines AS THEY SIT have 25 characters.. if not THEN THAT MEANS THEY WILL BE CHANGING THE SOFTWARE and should DEMAND IT BE DONE IN PLENTY OF TIME TO RE-CERTIFY!

Just another ravine to open infront of them.

made that graphic up with the 18 characters. It is not the actual machine and he is a good guy and saying the actual machine has 25 characters.

11. either way, check now to prepare for a challenge later...
if the machines have 18 characters now, and they MODIFY THE SOFTWARE for 25, then that's NEW SOFTWARE and should be REVALIDATED/RECERTIFIED

14. Nonsense
I predict we will find that 149,901 voters manage to enter her name perfectly, ironically being exactly the same number of votes that Delay got in 2004.

See, what you don't understand is that this voting machine is a computer, and computers have spell checkers.

"I'm sorry, we didn't recognize that input. Did you mean S-H-E-L-L-E-Y S-E-K-U-L-A--G-I-B-B-S?"

16. TX-22, one of the fifty-odd Dem House pick-ups in Nov.
Gotta keep this going. Dems can pick up over fifty House seats, but they have to go for it. Novakula said he predicts 25 and says that prominent Repuke insider (a party vote counter) has the Dem House up 26-30 seats.

I figure they're low-balling it. Plus, I've heard from another Dem strategist that 1994 could play out again--fifty seats in the House and up to eight in the Senate.

17. Another great detail...
Those voting a straight republican ticket will have no vote in this race. The only way to do the write-in is to vote individually for every sheriff, dog catcher. etc. Hopefully, this alone will wipe out SSG.

I, BillORightsMan, officially announce my WRITE-IN CANDIDACY for
Tom Delay's seat in the People's House
The US House of Representatives
TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 22

I promise to work with fellow Texan Ron Paul (TX-14) to ELIMINATE the Federal Reserve.
OTOH, I will FIGHT Ron Paul for the Separation of Church and State, in opposition to the
Texas GOP Platform of 2004 that proclaims:
p.8, Christian Nation: "The Republican Party of Texas affirms the United States of America is a Christian Nation ..."
and..
"Our party pledges to exert its influence to ... dispel the "myth" of the separation of church and state."

That's right!

Write in B-I-L-L-O-R-I-G-H-T-S-M-A-N for TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 22
