Today's Lame Allen Excuse

As you all know, Sen. George Allen (R-Macaca) isn't really a Virginian at all, but grew up in Southern California. Turns out he was into that quintessential SoCal pastime, surfing. So when he saw the brown-skinned Webb volunteer, he though it was someone he knew from his surfing days at O'ahu's famed surf spot, Macaca Beach. So he called out, "Hey, Macaca!"

Of course the surf spot is really Makaha Beach...

3. If he had simply said that he did something terrible and stupid

and deeply regretted using the word, this story would have ended by now. Yes, some people would have been lost, but the media would have bored with the story and it would have gone away unnoticed by many. How many days has this been in the news now? Don't they know you want bad stories to disappear down the memmory hole?
