What strikes me about the Bin Laden Tape
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 08:25 PM by ContraBass Black
Since 9/11, there have been skeptical voices every time a conveniently distracting Bin Laden recording comes out. Some say that it's not real. Some say that it's been held until it could have better political impact. I have heard and even repeated the joke that Bin Laden is coming out with more recordings from beyond the grave than Tupac Shakur.

But this time, it's not just the usual skepticism or cynicism. This time, from every direction, from every person I speak to, I hear the same thundering declarations: "It's fake!" "I don't believe it!" "Total B.S.!" "They're trying to scare their way out of trouble!"

Has the situation really changed? Are people waking up? Even I don't usually dismiss these offhand, but the moment I saw the words "Bin Laden" and "tape" on CNN, I broke out in a roaring, bitter laugh.

Yet, how many times have we said that the game is up, only to be played again? I hope it's really happening this time.

1. Yeah, I think a lot of people are waking up (finally!) ...
The this-just-in-new-tape-from-Bin-Laden schtick is going the way of the 'terrorist alerts' - greeted with one, giant, national YAWN!

2. I keep posting this hoping someone will look PLEASE READ
I usually don't drone on and act like a pain but I am reposting this again because I think it screams the tape is a fake IMO

If you go to this link below you will see a 1997 transcript of a UBL interview NOTE just about everytime he says God he follows it with "praise and glory be to him" he does it CONSTANTLY and I have included a couple of copied and pasted examples below the link.

http://www.anusha.com/osamaint.htm
(there is also a PDF of this interview of findlaw and it's the same but I cannot copy and paste it)

"BIN LADIN: We are confident, with the permission of God, Praise and Glory be to Him, that Muslims will be victorious in the Arabian peninsula and that God's religion, praise and glory be to Him, will prevail in this peninsula. It is a great pride and a big hope that the revelation unto Muhammad, Peace be upon him, will be resorted to for ruling. When we used to follow Muhammad's revelation, Peace be upon him, we were in great happiness and in great dignity, to God belong credit and praise."

"BIN LADIN: We are a nation and have a long history, with the grace of God, Praise and Glory be to Him. We are now in the 15th century of this great religion, the complete and comprehensive methodology, has clarified the dealing between an individual and another, the duties of the believer towards God, Praise and Glory be to Him, and the relationship between the Muslim country and other countries in time of peace and in time of war. If we look back at our history, we will find there were many types of dealings between the Muslim nation and the other nations in time of peace and in time of war, including treaties and matters to do with commerce. So it is not a new thing that we need to come up with. Rather, it already, by the grace of God, exists. As for oil, it is a commodity that will be subject to the price of the market according to supply and demand. We believe that the current prices are not realistic due to the Saudi regime playing the role of a US agent and the pressures exercised by the US on the Saudi regime to increase production and flooding the market that caused a sharp decrease in oil prices."

NOW if you look at the text from the al jeezeera website of his speech yesterday you will notice that he doesn't do this EVEN ONCE (where as he does it dozens of times in the 1997 interview)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4628932.stm

Text: 'Bin-Laden tape'

"These crimes include the raping of women and taking them hostage instead of their husbands. There is no power but in God."

"I say that despite all the barbaric methods, they have failed to ease resistance, and the number of mujahideen, praise be to God, is increasing."

"Operations are under preparation, and you will see them on your own ground once they are finished, God willing."

"We are a nation, for which God has disallowed treachery and lying."

"Finally, I would like to tell you that the war is for you or for us to win. If we win it, it means your defeat and disgrace forever as the wind blows in this direction with God's help."

I have included the paragraphs from yesterdays transcripts above that just blatantly should have the "praise and glory be to him" thing on the end if his usual pattern of the 97 interview was followed.

If you don't believe how characteristic this saying is of bin laden do a google search and type in "God praise and glory be to him" and many of the hits will be to bin laden related interviews and announcements by him

5. You have outlined exactly why I think the tape is a fake
in the tape yesterday, there is no mention of God, the Koran or Mohammed. Highly uncharacteristic of OBL to not invoke all three of these.

8. Here's the kicker the Nov 04 tape is worded the same way
No flowery Koran stuff with the normal order or way he speaks--

I would bet big bucks the thing is fake because you are right bhe ALWAYS invoked those themes in the past!

11. You hit the nail on the head.
The first thing I thought when I read the transcript was it didn't sound like what I had read from him before. It sounded like someone else wrote it...<read...CIA or somebody> and put it out at a convenient moment. Interesting that it actually came out quite a while ago and is just now being sent out. I think it's a fake too.

13. Carni, I caught one of your posts and you make a lot of sense
Did you see this post about an expert on Bin Laden saying (on Lehrer's show) that the speech struck him as having been written ORIGINALLY in English then translated to Arabic. with no quotes for the Koran, none of the usual flowery speech which is common?

Most interesting.

16. Strange? OBL makes a threat the day after news breaks about
day traders in Frist & DeLay's offices and the day BEFORE Rove talks about terrorism fight being the issue for GOP candidates to campaign on this election year? Not strange as much as too damned predictable!

LIHOP, MIHOP or other terrorists, who would an attack ultimately help? Who benefits from a bunch of people scared so bad they can't function well? Who benefits when those of us not easily stampeded become hesitant to use internet search engines to dig up the dirt on the PNACers?

Not strange, just too damned predictable.

Keep up the good work raising questions and pointing up the irregularities. It gets more people thinking and fewer people just reacting blindly. THAT is good for America!

21. Yes! I was literally just reading about the day traders
When the bin forgotten tape was announced on cable -- I about died of shock at their audacity.

I am just hoping that their utter disdain and belief that the public is completely stupid will eventually be the thing that bites them in the ass.

23. That tape sure knocked some shit off page one, didn't it?
And probably made Frist so beholden that he will make damn sure the DEMS in the Senate get no voice on anything, no rooms for hearings, probably no pencils or ink cartridges! His ass is owned!

6. Careful, If we stop believing the tapes are real the BFEE might just
attempt another 911! THAT would surely get our attention off unimportant matters like our preznit breaking the law and overriding our constitution.

I no longer fear the tapes at all. I fear what might come of the aftermath of everyone else not believing in them.

Let's face it. This was an AUDIO tape and it just happened to be released at a spectacular moment for the administration to distract the masses. I put nothing past them, however, and if this tactic no longer works they will go for another one. Scary to think, but I think we actually should be worried about what the administration might do as a result of us not believing this tape.

18. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
The timing of this is just WAAAY too much of a ko-inky-dink. :tinfoilhat:
What with all the scandals coming to the fore, the fact that a goodly number of people not only don't "...feel safer when being spied upon", but resent it like hell, and the Alito vote coming up...
Sounds to me like an attempt to scare the sheeple back into line.
Gotta crank the volume on that ol' "terra terra terra" recording, it's been playing so long people don't hear (read: believe) it anymore.
:eyes: :boring:
