Katrina Help Still Needed
Still Need Help after a year. If you have other links for groups please add them to this.

“Katrina victims still need your help one year later
It was almost a year ago when Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast causing at least 1,836 deaths and hundreds of thousands of Americans to lose their homes. Victims are still trying to rebuild their lives. Below is a list of organizations that you can donate to. Even the smallest amount helps, so please donate.

Hands On Network
Habitat for Humanity
The American Red Cross
Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund
The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation
The Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund
United Way - Greater New Orleans Area
Adopt-a-Home in Pearlington
Katrina's Angels
Katrina's Toybox

If you know of any other organizations that you think should be on this list, please add them in the comments section.”

2. Governor Blanco had some nerve to sign that abortion ban into law.

I find myself turned off by her slap in the face to American women by her signing that abortion ban into law.

I donated money to an organization in Louisiana months before she did that. I do not regret doing that however.

She wants people to help people in her state and then she shows the gall to deny women freedom of choice.

I will not have anything to do with Louisiana until they repeal that abortion ban and that goes also for South Dakota.

6. Please consider donating time as well!
I can put anyone in touch with volunteer housing in either Mississippi or Louisiana. There is still SO MUCH to be done!

Don't let lack of money stop you from coming down. Some volunteer sites do not charge and will feed you during your stay. I was unemployed the first time I went to help. I contacted everyone on my email list, hit up every friend and family member to give me a few bucks to come down. I ended up getting more money from strangers who had heard of what I wanted to do than I did from people I know. $600 got me down and back home after a week, and I still had money left over to donate to the group I volunteered with to help feed other volunteers. If you're unemployed, you could be a long-term volunteer.

If you can't do physical labor, don't let that stop you from volunteering! Not all the work to be done is physical. Cooks and administrative help is needed in almost all the camps, and there are organizations who are working on historical and cultural preservation projects that could really use people with good research, photography, and Spanish interpreters, to name a few projects I know about off the top of my head.

Seriously, volunteer coordinating on the Coast is my job. PM me if you're interested. :hi:

8. New Orleans
Given the short attention span of the human race, we really need to keep this in front of our face. Thank you ME for getting this out there.
