Head injury not sever enough to keep military benefits.
Disability ruling is appealed

Former 82 nd Airborne Division paratrooper wounded in Iraq is appealing an Army ruling that dtermined his head injury was not severe enough to keep his military benefits.

Cpl.Richard Twohig was injured in May 2003 when he was thrown off an armored personnel carrier and landed on his head.

Twohig,at the time a team sergeant in the 1st Battalion of the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, was diagnosed with post-concussive syndrome with intractable headaches and mood disorder. He suffers from intence headaches at least once a week.THE PAIN IS SO SEVERE HE SPENDS 12 TO 14 HOURS IN BED WITH SHADES DRAWN.

Ya right we support the troops and veterans

3. Why doesn't the injured soldier love America?
:sarcasm:

I don't know how many times I want to take "Support The Troops" magnets off of minivans with Bush stickers on them and hand them to the driver and ask them why they don't support the troops if they support Bush...

This needs to be a huge story for the fall election.

5. Anybody who is OK with a draft, THINK AGAIN
They are not taking care of the soldiers they have.

9. But there aren't enough freepers signing up to keep their wars
going in definitely! Eventually, I think they'll plan for a draft because their own warhawks are cowards.

6. Persistent Post-concussive Syndrome is very controversial.
Symptoms persisting beyond 6 months post-concussion are often associated with pre-morbid (i.e., pre-injury) mood and personality factors. Concussion or mild-TBI being defined as a loss of consciousness of less than 30 min. and post-traumatic amnesia of less than 24 hours. One of these minor head injuries/concussions typically is shrugged off with very little residual problems beyond 2-3 months. However, concussions can be additive and will debilitate with long-term consequences after 3-4 of these incidents (n.b., the return to play rules following concussion in the NFL, NHL, etc. are set up to avoid this cumulative problem).

Not to second guess the case in question, but one would seriously need to consider the presence of secondary gain in any symptom complaint from such a minor injury...the greatest secondary gain being a reprieve from being sent back to the hell-hole in Iraq.

11. Unfortunately research spending is cut across the board...thanks to Iraq.
NIH and VA research spending are cut across the board due to the "wartime economy." Our Alzheimer's disease research center was lucky to get by with a 4% across the board cut this year.

As is typical of the Repukes, they love to screw the poor, infirm, or injured. Grandma with Alzheimer's disease? Tough shit on any research to help her.
