BAN ON SALE OF PET CATS, DOGS

Saeed Al-Abyad, Arab News

JEDDAH, 24 August 2006 — The Makkah governorate, acting on a request from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, has decided to prohibit the sale of pet cats and dogs. The commission made the request after it noticed many young Saudis going out in streets with their pet dogs in violation of the Kingdom’s culture and traditions.

Saudi authorities in Jeddah have begun enforcing the decision.

The commission complained of Saudi youth, apparently influenced by Western culture, bringing their pets into public places, allegedly causing distress especially to families with young children.

Arab News learned that the Jeddah Municipality had received a letter from the Makkah governorate banning sales of pet dogs and cats in the city.

The municipality is in the process of dispatching special squads to close down such shops. The growing trend in purchasing domestic pets has encouraged businessmen to open shops and clinics for such animals in Jeddah. Veterinary clinics charge SR100 to SR200 for diagnosing sick animals and the amount can increase if the animal requires special treatment or surgery.

I live in Asia. I've been to Saudi Arabia twice. I have lunch once a month with a Cleric from the Mosque in Seoul, Korea.
Save your indignity for someone else.

12. These are the same men who forced 15 school girls burn to death.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1874471.stm

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers.

Hey cali,

Please explain that to me. Nothing is above criticism in this world controlled by men.

2. Yeah, why should they be happy? Better that they grow up grim and lonely
so they can resent anyone who actually has a life.

13. My dogs and cats is my life. They are caming and provide sanity
and a love for humanity and nature.

I can't believe they'd be so evil to take that away from their own people.

8. I guess I'm naive, but is there any other culture that doesn't like at
least baby animals? I don't understand this at all.

I know China used to frown on having animals as pets, but I thought it was becausethey ate "as my son says" ANYTHIng in their country!

My other question is,WHY DO THEY HAVE VETS? If they'resaying it's wrong to have a pet dog or cat, why do they allow veterinarians at all?

Geesh, I have always been a believer in that all people are basicly the same. There are differences in cultures but most people like each other, and want to succeed...whatever that means to them.

I really DON'T understand the Arab culture at all!!!!!

'Seed of the Dog' is a real insult. A major one.

You need vets for the cows and camels and horses.....
