Americans rescued in Beruit vs. Americans "rescued" in New Orleans

Americans were rescued over the course of two days in Beruit, thousands of miles away.
The military was used
Comercial airline and comercial ships were used
There was a war going on.
The people were hiding.

Five days after Katrina hit New Orleans.
"Brownie" was just hearing about the people at the Convention Center.
Nobody was in New Orleans except the news media.
Cheney was fishing
Condi was playing tennis and shopping
I guess W was planning another 911 anniversary since that is all he can do.

In 1965 after Hurricane Betsy hit, Lyndon Johnson was on the ground in
New Orleans in the water holding a flashlight and saying "I'm Lyndon Johnson and
I'm your president and I am here to tell you your government cares about you."

1. People I know went to New Orleans with airboats

to go rescue people. These are experienced boaters and outdoorsmen, of which Louisiana has lots.

They were TURNED AWAY by FEMA asshats. Several I know had to sneak in through bayous that weren't manned by FEMA asshats and went in to rescue people from rooftops anyway.

2. I wish I knew who they are so I could...

Give them the Humanitarian Service medal I was awarded by the Navy after Katrina.
I was down there for 25 days but I did nothing heroic. I am proud of what the Navy and
Coast Guard did and what Louisianan's did for each other.
This one year anniversary stuff is tugging at my heart again just like it did last year.
God bless your heroic friends for what they did.

3. It was (and is still) an unthinkable crime

What was done to the residents of LA and MS after Katrina will go down as one of the largest fiasco's in American history. I hope that eventually everyone gets to see Spike Lee's documentary on the aftermath. It pulls no punches.
