I got myself in trouble again!
What would you have done?

Hey what do you think about this exchange?

My girlfriend of over 40 years and I had this exchange this morning. (by e-mail)

Did I go too far. There was a picture of Nick Berg beheaded in the original e-mail, Subject: (FW: A Message from the Ghost of General Patton) that she sent me, I didn't really look at it because I kind of knew that it was coming, I saw just enough to gross me out though.

XXXXXX

ME: Did you send me a picture of somebody beheaded?????? I scrolled down really slowly, and when I saw the group with the prisoner with the orange jump suit, I went down real slow and I think I began to see somebody holding his head??!!!! I hope not. I could have seen the video many times over but I avoided it, because I just can't deal with something that graphic. I didn't want the picture stuck in my head - forever. If I am mistaken, Thank God, if not, please don't ever send me any more graphic pictures of somebody beheaded. have the willies.

I will not forward this to anyone else because, although the message is good, the shocking imagery is questionable. Some of us wussies just cannot deal with it. How did you?

"FRIEND' I Just wanted to make a point!!

"ME" What was the point? Since I didn't LOOK at the whole thing, I haven't the slightest idea what point you were trying to make....I kept thinking about it last night while I couldn't sleep. Not that, that was the reason, but it kept popping up in my head.

"FRIEND" You know what, stop sending me YOUR PROPAGANDA and I won’t send you anything. You’re always so sensitive if every one does not agree with your viewpoint.

"ME" Jesus xxxxxxx,

Sending horrific graphic pictures is a whole different story than sending "words" that factually educate. I have no problem for ANYBODY to see what I send, I wouldn't mind if a child, for instance, saw what I send. Yes, I am sensitive when our Government, which is representative of us, is responsible for killing tens of thousands of innocent lives over a bunch of lies that they continues to spout. I will always be sensitive about murdering innocent men, women and children, sorry.

You can send me "ANY PROPAGANDA" that you want to, just delete horrific and graphic pictures. If you want an honest thought provoking discussions about things fine, if you don't then I feel bad.

Too many people spend their lives doing meaningless things just to have fun. There is nothing wrong with having fun, but it is also our responsibility to be informed and to read and know what is going on in our world around us. I do feel a responsibility for leaving the world a better place than I found it, not worse.

95% of the people I know agree with me, The little town in Winonoa with all of the college educated farmers that send their kids to catholic schools hate Bush and have hated him for very early on. Phil NEVER liked Bush. The rest of my friends hate Bush. Many of us make it a point to educate ourselves about what is going on in the world around us. I get e-mails all of the time from people sharing information, that is partly how I learn things to.

Some, just know instinctually (like Phil), when they see an incompetent liar steal the WH. What I send you is information that you don't find on FOX, or hear in casual chatter in the office. I send you details about what is going on and what historically has happened. I make it a point to read and learn about what is going on in the world that I live in and then I try to share what I have learned.

Yes, I feel passionately about what is happening in our world. If you knew half of what I knew, you might care to. Although, most people choose not to know, which is their right.

You can send me anything that you want to, just delete horrible graphic pictures. I don't send the pictures of blown up dead children in Iraq to you now do I?

I just sent you pictures of your 50th, right? Did you even get them?

the next e-mail was an out of office reply, I don't know if she actually left the office, or if she did that for my benefit....

Again, was I wrong? should I have just dropped it?

1. How sad for this man's family. I would feel horrified if my loved one's
murder were sent round the world to "make a point". That is just an awful thing to do....

2. I don't think you were wrong...
I think you were very fair.

More magnanimous than I could have been, that's for sure.

3. Only a frigging idiot would send something like that around
in an e-mail.

How disgusting.

I've lost friends over that kind of crap. I've told two people NEVER ever to e-mail, call, or try to contact me in any way, shape, or form.

4. No, it's a nasty hatriot chain email
Your 'friend' is a disgusting individual for forwarding it to anyone. I would be supremely offended if that crap showed up in my email inbox. Maybe you should reply to her with some quotes from Nick Berg's father. After all, he doesn't support this criminal administration. He doesn't think all "muzzies" should die for his son's awful, brutal murder.

My god, where do these people come from? Even if it were my own mother who sent it to me, I'd feel very compelled to call bullshit on her! Sick individuals exploit the deaths of innocents to promote their unnecessary wars.

6. I got in an argument with
the person who sent me that email. She told me if I didn't like it to just delete it.

Well duh. I told her that if she was going to forward offense propoganda then she had to expect that at some point it would end up in the inbox of sosmeone who objected to the content and might want to make those feelings known.

Amazingly at the end of the exchange she actually came around.

I don't think anything you said was over the line.

7. I would have kicked their asses if they sent me something like that.
Not funny, even slightly (and I have a pretty broad sense of humor). :puke:

8. IMHO, you were right.
I don't think it's too much to ask that someone respect your right NOT to receive snuff pics in your email. That is someone's son, and whether or not the pics are attached to a cute, feel-good antecdote is not even the point. It was grossly inappropriate.

9. You handled the situation very well. I had a friend send me a graphic
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 02:33 PM by AndyA
image once that was very disturbing. Pasted it right in the body of the message. It was horrific, to say the least. I won't repeat what I told them to their face the following day, but suffice it to say any graphic images are now sent as attachments, with warnings as to what they are. So, I can just delete without viewing.

It's difficult dealing with people who have succumbed to the right wing Kool Aid. They just don't see things the way they should. They're all like Manchurian Candidates walking around, zombies, the living dead.

A few friends I no longer speak to or acknowledge because it just became an exercise in frustration. I hope at some point they will come around, and perhaps my absence from their lives will help them to realize they've spent too much time in the dark.

You handled yourself and the situation very well, I would hope your friend has seen the error of her ways. Perhaps she did, and is a bit embarrassed that she was so insensitive.

11. Another irony here...
...is how the Repugs don't want the media to show the coffins of dead soldiers coming home from this illegal war and occupation. This they try and hide behind the idea of "showing respect." So where's the respect for the Bergs?

They see no problem in exploiting the grusome death of this man to evoke emotions of outrage, and using it to try and shore up their empty and depraved rationale for this war and the deaths of so many innocents.

:puke:

Maybe you could use some new friends. Forty years or not. With "friends" like this, who needs enemies????
