The most right-wing State Senator in Minnesota...

Republican Michelle Bachmann

...could be Michelle Bachman.
* Opposes all legal recognition of gay relationships <3>
* Favors leaving nuclear attack option on the table in dealing with Iran <4>
.. * Opposes any minimum wage <5>
* Believes teenage workers should pay for the right to work instead of being paid <6>
* Supports the teaching of intelligent design creationism in public school science classes

George W. Bush was in Minnesota on Tuesday to support her. She's running for US Congress.

Please consider donating to her Democratic opponent, Patty Wetterling.

I just donated to Democrat Patty Wetterling, based largely on trying to stop the right-wing Republican Michele Bachmann.

civil relationship.

Her sister is a lesbian. Family members have written letters to the editor disavowing Michelle's crazy-making.

2. Bachman is a hatefilled pig. Her own sister is a lesbian, yet Bachman

doesn't recognize her as a human being.

At a recent gay rights rally, Bachman and her Karl Rove-ish aide were caught literally hiding in the bushes to spy on the gathering. They were crouched down and hiding until someone photogrpahed them..then they ran away.

How anyone could vote for this piece of excrement is beyond me.

19. Actually, it's her step-sister
and the step-sister testified before a state senate committee agains the anti-gay marriage amendment.

It does call into question how much Bachmann's releationship with her step-sister (and maybe step-mother) plays into her hateful attitude toward gays.

21. Yes, But we're a blended family and sisters are sisters to us.
I saw an interview with her sister and she was crying and saying how hurt she was by Bachman's hatred of gay people.

I believe her brother was there as well.

maybe she isn't happy about daddy marrying someone else. There's no doubt some major dysfunction there.

3. I used to live in Minnesota
I know what a nutjob Michele Bachmann is. The ironic part is, the fact that she's running is absolutely wonderful. This is the most Republican district in Minnesota, and she's very likely to lose it. Most Minnesota Republicans are fairly moderate, and none of them are firebrands like Bachmann. While the Christian Right whackjobs will come out and vote for her, Democrats and independents will overwhelmingly support Wetterling, and moderate and libertarian-type conservatives will either stay home or cast a blank ballot or write-in rather than support Bachmann. Another plus is that we can finally get this nut out of the State Senate.

Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:33 AM by Eric J in MN
It isn't clear if that was based on a poll, or just a different Republican getting 54% in the district in 2004.

13. It was 54-46 in 2004
When Wetterling ran against Mark Kennedy, who despite his faults, is sane. I think Bachmann's insanity, which can only be guarenteed to unfold more on the campaign trail (see Katherine Harris syndrome), will cause that gap to close.

34. There were some strange goings on in the district in 2004
At one point, there were 7,000 votes added to the Green Party candidate's total. Which seemed odd enough for that area, then the 7,000 votes disappeared.

26. which polls
If memory serves me (and that's no guarantee these days!), the race was pretty much up-for-grabs. The 6th is a pretty conservative district, but I think that Bachman's extremism will still be a huge turn-off to a lot of voters.

35. It was the political analysts on MPR last week...sorry I can't be more
specific. They have a Democratic pollster, a Republican Pollster and a representative (I don't believe he was a pollster) from the Independent party.

All three led me to believe that Bachman was safe. I hope they were wrong.

ETA: I was searching MPR to see if I could find a transcript and I came across this...posted today on their political blog.

"Will the 6th be the "most bitter House race ever fought between two women"?

Larry Sabato, with the Center for Responsive Politics at the University of Virginia, is out with his latest “ferocious forty” House races. Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District is included (that’s the race between Republican Michele Bachmann and DFLer Patty Wetterling). Sabato says the race is a toss-up in his latest analysis:

“When all is said and done, this race could well go down in history as the most bitter House race ever fought between two women. Bachmann is a polarizing social conservative figure, and her party chides Wetterling as unprepared to hold federal office. Sure, the district is Republican, but Wetterling's name identification advantage from the last cycle and the strong Democratic tide give her an even shot to score Democrats a pickup.”

7. Wetterling just won Feingold's Progressive Patriot
Greetings,

Congratulations to our newest Progressive Patriot, Patty Wetterling. Patty received the most votes from you, the Progressive Patriots Fund community, so we're proud to send a $5,000 contribution to her campaign and to feature her on our website. The other candidates also made impressive showings, so we plan to make smaller contributions to other campaigns that participated.

Patty Wetterling is a wonderful addition to our growing list of Progressive Patriots. Patty has been a tireless advocate for those in need throughout her private life, and that experience will make her a valuable asset in Congress as she continues to stand up for improved educational opportunities, meaningful health care reform, and the working families of the 6th congressional district in Minnesota. I am proud to call her a 'Progressive Patriot.'

Pick a Progressive Patriot is our way of letting the netroots decide how your contributions will be distributed. Because of your generous donations, we've been able to contribute to over sixty candidates through this program. We would like to hold another Pick a Progressive Patriot before the November election, but we need your contributions to make that possible. Can you contribute $50 to help us hold our next Pick a Progressive Patriot?

Contribute today

The 2006 elections will be a crucial turning point in our fight to change this country. We're seeing the best possibility for Democratic gains in a decade this November, and candidates like Patty Wetterling, John Courage, Phil Angelides, Bill Winter, and Jerry McNerney, need our support to get elected. Now is the time when a crucial contribution of $50 matters most – can you help us support these and other candidates?

Contribute today

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Russ Feingold
US Senator
Honorary Chair, Progressive Patriots Fund

I am anxiously looking forward to Wetterling kicking the crap out of Bachman. If anything the Bush-photo op may start costing her votes.

24. Isn't she also the nut who hid in the bushes lest people spray Gay on her?
really. Pro-gay rights demonstrators were at the Capitol in St. Paul, and this asshat actually hid in the bushes (or is that Bush**es?) so none of them would touch her and give her cooties. :sarcasm:

http://www.eleventh-avenue-south.com/archives/000491.html

"The state Senate on Thursday rejected an effort to force a floor vote on a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage as thousands of ban opponents rallied outside the Capitol. Sen. Michele Bachmann, the Stillwater Republican who's led the push for the ban, said Senate Democrats have denied her repeated efforts to get the bill heard. Senate leaders countered that Bachmann, a candidate for the U.S. House, is flouting Senate rules to advance her own political career. At the same time, about 2,500 gays, lesbians and their supporters attended a rally on the Capitol grounds just a few hundred yards away, organized by OutFront Minnesota."

After the move didn't pan out, Michele took to hiding in the bushes to watch the queers rally. A reader tip:

"I know you're no fan of Michele. And therefore, you might be
interested in a few pics I took at the JustFair rally on Thursday of
her hiding behind the bushes watching us from afar before I scared her away with the camera."

Well, I suppose with Katherine Harris leaving Congress, there's an opening for Official Looney Tunes Kool-Aid-Drinking Far Right Wingnut. :puke:
