Kerry: Wal-Mart 'Swift-boating'

Kerry: Wal-Mart 'Swift-boating'

Sen. John Kerry, who suffered from some “Swift-boating’’ in the presidential campaign of 2004, has lunged into the great Wal-Mart debate of 2006 with a complaint that working people are getting Swift-boated now.

What got Kerry’s attention was a posting on townhall.com, a wide-ranging Internet-based opinion forum, in which Herman Cain, an Atlanta-based entrepreneur, rallied to Wal-Mart’s defense with a complaint that the Democrats have become “Hezbocrats, a roaming band of militant guerrillas seeking their party’s 2008 nomination for president’’ lobbing “their rhetorical bombs at Wal-Mart, that cruel capitalist occupying corporation.’’

The Massachusetts Democrat, denouncing Cain as the voice of a “Wal-Mart front group’’ and denouncing townhall.com as “a right-wing Web site,’’ spoke out today: “I won't stand for the 'Swift-boating' of working people and Democrats who ask tough questions of big corporations.

“Wal-Mart has a choice to make,’’ Kerry said in an email distributed by his own political committee, johnkerry.com

“Either denounce the unacceptable and offensive attacks made in their defense, or admit that they represent a proxy in Wal-Mart's lavish public relations war against its workers,’’ Kerry wrote. “Make no mistake, those who push and prod Wal-Mart to be a decent corporate citizen are standing up for the American worker. Decent wages and affordable health care aren't too much to ask for from the largest employer in the United States.’’

37. He was listening to Bob Shrum
"Beltway" Bob has a way of turning fighting Dems into withering pantywaists. Forget the stolen election...he's the Republicans' real secret weapon because he helped make sure the election was close enough to steal.

See - if you never saw it or heard it on the news, or if the cameras didn't show up for a candidate's speeches, they never happened.

2. You know...
I love Russ Feingold and he's my Senator but I'm going to have a very hard time not voting for Kerry as President if he runs in 2008. Let's hope this time he dumps the Clinton centrists who forced him to jumble his message and totally screwed his campaign over.

John Kerry rocks all.

6. If only... :::daydreams:::
Now THAT would be awesome. I worked my tail off for Kerry in 2004 (I volunteered a little for Feingold's re-election that year but his opponent never really had a chance) as an Area Coordinator and traveled all over (including Iowa) to work his events and help with his campaign. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Having Feingold on the ticket as well would probably help me work even harder with that extra burst I sorely needed when I was run ragged in late '04.

43. Gore/Feingold? Feingold/Obama? Edwards/Obama? Edwards/Feingold?...
The talent is definately on the Democratic side. I really like Kerry. I'm a little disturbed by two things 1. His early capitulation (Gore took it to the Supreme Court (of f'ing repug-old-senile-farts), and 2. His Skull and Bones membership.

To be its best, the USA needs genuine grass roots leadership at the expense of 'the elites'.

For anyone who is interested... "Rule by Secrecey", Jim Marrs.

12. His messege now is much clearer and as he said
on Ed Schultz, "I've learned how to fight back at the lies these guys spread. And I'm not going to let them continue to do this."

Yes...he's sounding like Paul Hackett calling them out on their lies and soundbites.

and their mediawhores to try and take the scrutiny off the issues Kerry was raising.

The meme against him was really ramped up on BCCI where there were no other Dems speaking out on the issue and Kerry was forced to find a camera to counter every lie the WH goons and the GOP senators were putting out against Kerry and the case.

Hey - why don't you call him a conspiracy theory nut, too - Dick Cheney started that one in hope the media would ignore BCCI.

And it was great of him to use his effectiveness to help expose IranContra, BCCI and CIA drugrunning, too - Kerry couldn't have done it wothout Gore's help, could he?

34. Kerry has done what he thought was right for over 35 years
as a public figure. He is not a faux anything. He criticized Wal-Mart for how they treated employees in 2004 - this is not new. Here he is standing up for other Democrats who are being lied about by WalMart executives. Isn't this what you and others screamed he needed to do in 2004 - ignoring that he used the facts to defend himself - but the media playing with the liars gave less time for the truth.

Others should have defended Kerry as he has ALWAYS stood up for others.

As to Teresa, have you dedicated as much of your time as she has to work on issues to help people less fortune that she is. She has been working on health insurance, women's pension plans and especially on improving the environment. She, as much as anyone, is credited with working on the initiatives to transform Pittsburg from a dirty steel town to a much cleaner place. Teresa is incredibly wealthy and could easily have simply have done nothing - and no one would have criticized her for that. It is not surprising that her three children are actively working on similar issue.

When you've done half as much (or 1/10 th as much) as either, maybe than it would be fair for you to make these tacky RW meme cracks.

36. I hope Gore will give his whole hearted support to Kerry
I am sure that if Gore is the candidate, Kerry will. In 2000, Kerry was one of the few Democrats that could be found who supported Gore fighting for the Presidency in NOv and Dec. (He was more supportive than Clinton.)

47. Senator Kerry makes several good points in his reply to this
Republican operative, but what pops out at me is the fact that Walmart is making over 11 billion in profits while as much as 45% of their employees have to rely on our federal government for additional assistance for their, housing food and health needs. This assistance comes from OUR TAX DOLLARS! We are having to provide necessities and pick up the slack helping Walmart workers while Walmart profits from denying their workers living wages and benefits. Even Repubs should be outraged at this! And, Walmart isn't the only big company operating this way. Look at the employment pages- a great many jobs being offered are part time- and these are jobs that were once considered full time employment.
