Michael Collins: Political Free-Fall In The USA

Opinion: Michael Collins
Political Free-Fall In The United States

Secret Plans for Iran War and
Election Fraud Charged
Impeachment Demands

“Americans strongly oppose the Bush administration and show signs of mounting anger. Popular anger is clear from the very low Bush approval ratings in the mid to low thirties. Only 27% of Americans think that the country is headed in the right direction, while 60% or more think it is not. These shocking right/wrong direction figures have been constant since October 2005.” Cont….

“The United States is in a volatile condition, ready to erupt. The old structures have little influence and new forces propel public opinion and policy choices. The corporate media (CM) continues to give Bush a “get out of jail free” card on almost every scandal. The CM either refuses to cover the news or covers scandals for a brief period prior to stumbling into a “short attention span theater” featuring journalistic amnesia. American journalists show a stronger resemblance to Guy Pearce’s "Leonard" in Memento than to their imagined role model, Edward R. Murrow.

Americans now have to develop their political judgments by performing archeological digs which delve far deeper than the fragments and smattered sound bites of inconsistent corporate media coverage. To a greater degree, public opinion and consensus is formed in discussions with neighbors, co-workers, and within community organizations, unions, churches, and political parties. Parallel news paths like internet news organizations, news aggregators, email distribution lists, and web pages now show vastly increased activity and influence. In the absence of an open and honest news media, where else could the requisite facts and analyses arise creating the demand for a Bush impeachment other than these virtual and physical public squares?” Cont…

Causis Belli for Impeachment

As though conspiring to generate even more opposition, the Bush White House and its neoconservative functionaries are now accused of readying a long planned war against Iran. National security expert James Bamford, author of Puzzle Palace (on the National Security Agency) and Pretext for War just published an article in Rolling Stone Magazine which details the plans.

It was a role that AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) was eager to play. Rosen, recognizing that Franklin could serve as a useful spy, immediately began plotting ways to plant him in the White House—specifically in the National Security Council, the epicenter of intelligence and national-security policy. By working there, Rosen told Franklin a few days later, he would be "by the elbow of the president."

Knowing that such a maneuver was well within AIPAC's capabilities, Franklin asked Rosen to "put in a good word" for him. Rosen agreed. "I'll do what I can," he said, adding that the breakfast meeting had been a real "eye-opener."

Working together, the two men hoped to sell the United States on yet another bloody war. A few miles away, digital recorders at the FBI's Language Services Section captured every word.” Cont….

Working together, the two men hoped to sell the United States on yet another bloody war. A few miles away, digital recorders at the FBI's Language Services Section captured every word.

The disturbing story in the detailed Bamford article concludes with these words:

In the end, the work of Franklin and the other members of Feith's secret office had the desired effect. Working behind the scenes, the members of the Office of Special Plans succeeded in setting the United States on the path to all-out war with Iran.

The evidence is all over the place. These people just have to get busy and do something about it.

But first they'll need to consider some meaningless garbage like highways to nowhere and subsidies
for their favorite industries ("socialism for the rich, free enterprise for the poor").

Great work, I'm totally impressed...

I don't know why R's themselves don't vote for impeachment...it's coming. Since Bush adamantly refuses to withdraw from Iraq in a sensible fashion until he's out of office, maybe Congress should accomodate him.

Since world oil will only last until 2031, as the book Plan B 2.0 shows

http://www.earth-policy.org/Books/PB2/PB2ch1_ss3.htm

we should be making the transition to fuel alternatives to oil RIGHT NOW and not relying upon Middle Eastern supplies at all.

BTW, when the future of oil sinks in to those in the Middle East who are set upon jihad, they may do well to reconsider said jihad.

Green is the only way out and since Dems are closer to that green position, they have a future politically. Republicans do not. There it is spelled out to you in black and white.

You're so right:

"we should be making the transition to fuel alternatives to oil RIGHT NOW and not relying upon Middle Eastern supplies at all."

No kidding, what a concept. We'll actually plan for the problem and then mitigate it...probably save human life on the planet as a result of cleaning up.

Hemp any one, that's supposed to be a great alternative for all sorts of things...

And the pathetic rhetoric of the oil lobby - alternative fuels don't work...of course they don't, we don't do any research to speak of.

Manufactured crises, manufactured news, manufactured elections, manufactured business cycles...it's all a pathetic joke and nobody believes it any more.

they'd probably win both the House AND Senate and not even have to wring their hands worrying about it. The R's would be exposed as the feckless idiots they are (sans MSM figleafs) and skulk off to wherever they skulk off to and probably never be heard from again...All without firing a shot.

Remember, Debs himself never won anything but his party platform was eventually adopted by Teddy Roosevelt's Republicans and Wilson's Democrats: an 8 hr workday, anti-child labor laws, food and drug regulations, etc. etc. Progressive meant getting things done. Dems can do it. Keep hope alive.

50. Debs never won office, he just won the policy debate...great point.
That's why we need people telling the truth, who don't give in. And after Debs there was Thomas but after Thomas who?

Seeking and then telling the truth is the most powerful thing you can do. I do wish we had someone in the political arena to translate that...who knows.

Sort of a feel good article to end the summer.

I think things must be getting much worse.

Now we're hearing the "line", "is he turning it around" regarding *.

AOL had a story on the CNN poll yesterday, which has approval at 42% but the same disapprovalas the CBS/NYT poll. Then AOL had the user polls on *. He got "F"s on everything, "failed" on everything by near majorities. Why do they hate their customers so much that they advance a propoganda point for the president their users simply can't stand. It's been like that on AOL userpolls for months - alway s huge numbers way ing "poor" - "F" - "failed."

.....................Approve/Disapprove/NS/

CBS/NYT - 8/17-21/06 --36%--57--7

.
CNN(AOL)- 8/18-20/06 --42%--57--1

Who knows about these numbers but I think that when 1/3rd of the people DO NOT approve of your performance, its time to "seek opportunities elsewhere."

May they all find the proper gated community.

Thanks "Me."

It was fun to write...I think that Americans are much smarter than ever, that they get their information from nontraditional media, and that they actually talk about it with each other...enough Americans to influence the country. This guy * has slim to none in the support department. It must take heroic efforts by pollsters to keep him above 30%. The word will go out soon, the "other" faction (the one that allows us to get any news at all) is gaining strength, it seems, and there's open talk of bouncing the bums. Now we need our event. Maybe some of those recorded conversations will leak, magically, to the internet (wouldn't that be rich), or maybe the Franklin affair will break, or maybe a whole new scandal will materialize in a way that can not, will not be denied.

Let us hope so and keep working toward that end.

13. WHAAAAT? 36% of poll respondants are MIHOP/LIHOP believers???
WTF??? I'm in the process of reading the Scoop article now, and that's what it says! I almost fell out of my chair when I read this part:

"Over a third, 36%, of respondents say that this statement was “likely” to “very likely:” People in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."

How the hell did THAT happen? Granted, it wasn't a very large poll, but how/why did 36% of the population (apparently) become "tinfoil-hatters"?

For the record, I incline to the LIHOP position myself, although I don't know enough enough to venture an informed opinion. It's mostly based on what I've read on DU.

19. Outstanding article. But it's too bad...
It's too bad it had to happen. I knew what to expect. Even four years ago, my very first forum post was titled "Impeach Bush". When Bush was sworn in, I knew there were going to be wars. But why did it have to come to this? Why, always a crisis? Can't we ever stop before it's too late?

That is a very broad article. It encompasses the dirty details, and it addresses why we even have these people in office in the first place.

I can only hope we are quickly drawing to a close before more suffering is incurred.

29. Abner Mikva, Judge
An American hero. He was a Federal court judge and a M.C. at one point. Well respected, he said that the Democrats in Congress were obliged to vote against every nominee * made (after 2000) because * was not the legitimate president. There was someone who was intellectually honest and fearless.

The suffering has gone on too long...especially the suffering that * inflicts daily.

30. 2nd term. They have nothing to lose, PNACers have EVERYTHING,....
,...TO GAIN. They will profit no matter win/lose/draw 'cause they are oil-barrons and arms-dealers and "security" *LOL* profiteers.

They will spend this country into bankruptcy while laughing at the heights of their power on the backs of their own country, their own people and the participants of certain sections of the world.

THIS IS IT!

31. Impeach Cheney
The smartest move is to impeach Cheney mainly as he has said more impeachable things, also if you impeach Bush you only get Cheney anyway. Bush is nothing without Cheney and Bush's dad would probably financially protect him anyway.

33. Another K&R
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 06:33 AM by Hubert Flottz
I think the whole thing is ready to blow too. It feels like we're living in a pressure cooker. I just heard on the local news that some folks in Washington don't believe all of Bush's current stories about Iran. The adult supervision in DC will question the neocon's assertions this time and they want proof that Bush's intelligence on Iran isn't make believe bullshit, like his substandard,(faulty)intelligence about Iraq was.

GOP/neocon/MSM credibility...ZERO. Faith based government is a total disaster. And the GOP and their lap dog media, still would ask America to go right on TRUSTING BUSH ? The GOP is running a huge deficit now, even on their political capital. Even crying Wolf can't put humpty dumbya together again.

The only hope the neocons have in November, is to steal another election. Will we let them do that? Can we afford that? I don't think the country can survive another two years of this unrestrained bushit.

49. "“The United States is in a volatile condition, ready to erupt."
Amen and hallelujah. But if you turned on the news, there's little more to worry about than decade-old murder cases and Tom Cruise's contract. Denial is also very widespread.
Things are seriously jacked up. It's midnight in America. In my 34 years of life, I've never sensed as much anger, frustration and desperation as I do now. :(

54. I don't like anything Bush has done, let alone the secret government.
...In the end, the work of Franklin and the other members of Feith's secret office had the desired effect. Working behind the scenes, the members of the Office of Special Plans succeeded in setting the United States on the path to all-out war with Iran...

55. That Is The Untold Story Of The Plame Affair
While the focus of the MSM has been the outing of an agent for political purposes, they never asked why they (WH, Cheney) were so vicious, so fearful they would be found out. They (media) blithley explained it away as retaliation against her husband, and that was certainly part of it. But it, as you know, goes deeper. Behind the story is the one of the OSP and WHIG. And the neocon goal of American imperialism continues. Fred Fleitz just delivered a report to Congress on why we should attack Iran and Liz Cheney is heading up the WHIG with the I in focus now being Iran. If the entire story had been told the first time around, there would be no chance they would try the same play again.
