"Independent" Women's Forum, my ass!
I went to check out their Website after getting the gist of their political stance on Iran from A. Yasmine Rassam, the director of International Policy for the Independent Women's Forum, in today's LA Times (sample: "The U.S. military's presence in Iraq keeps Iran in check. An immediate pullout, as prescribed by antiwar liberals and demagogic Democrats, would leave Iraq to Iran — and to the likes of Al Qaeda. And that would be a hostage-taking far more harmful to the United States than the one that happened in Tehran nearly 30 years ago.").

After reading that crap, it didn't surprise me to find a Web design resembling something my 10-year-old daughter would visit and leading to this page:

1. And it always comes down to telling people who to 'love' an 'hate' -

quite a tipoff right there when they don't trust you to make your own choices. So where does the "independent" part come in?

In my own opinion, they have set up lots and lots of these strange websites as if they're going to cash in on the internet blogger phenom now that it's a winning Dem proponent. You can almost always recognize them though.

3. I was talking to a young woman the other day who worked as
an intern for them last year. She starts law school this week. She had no idea they were a sham organization - she thought she was working for a legitimate feminist organization.

I have so little faith in our future.

6. How could she handle their materials and NOT know they're sham?
I don't get that. She must not be very political?

9. Well Burt - get a load of this. Her boyfriend (who had just
finished taking the bar) had interned for Congressman Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones a couple of years ago. He was insisting to me that Iraq and 9/11 were directly connected - the usual Fox news crap. I asked him if he posted on Free Republic and he said he hadn't had much time but used to read it often. I suggested he was not keeping up while in law school and studying for the bar and it might be time to start paying more attention.

He is from Jones' congressional district and when I informed him that even Jones had changed his position on the Iraq War he called me a liar. Fortunately we were in my office so I could just google it and invite him to take a seat in front of the monitor. Like any good freeper he became very angry - not to mention the fact that he looked like a fool. He left with his tail between his legs and said he hadn't been paying much attention but would be contacting his congressman. What an a-hole. He plans to bully his Congressman back into his prior pro-war position.

10. That must have been a delicious moment!
I envy you! :toast:

Jones doesn't seem the type to get bullied back. Once you're liberated from The Big Iraq Lie, I don't see how anyone can go back.

They do this shit for so called Crisis Preganancy Clinics!
They are scamming women!
Look at the name of the Welfare reform bill! Just to name a few!

Beware of Anti-abortion Crisis Pregnancy Centers

In small and large towns throughout the United States (and all over the Internet),
antiabortion groups have set up "crisis pregnancy centers" or "pregnancy counseling
centers" or "pregnancy help centers." They are often located near high schools.
These centers follow a format suggested by the Pearson Foundation that is
deliberately designed to misinform and mislead young women.

Going by the names, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Pregnancy Aid, Birth Right, Open Door,
or Pregnancy Counseling Center, these groups want to be the first contact a woman
makes when she thinks she might be pregnant, so they can talk her out of considering abortion.

Antiabortion pregnancy centers are listed in the yellow pages under "abortion alternatives."
They do NOT provide abortion.
Many offer free pregnancy tests or pregnancy counseling as a means to lure you in.
On the Internet they also use deceptive names like prochoice.com, and pregnancycenters.org.

Nearly all of these centers are operated by churches or religious organizations.
They refer to themselves as a "ministry" to save women's souls.

:grr: I fucking HATE repigs!!!!

7. "We"? Where are those Ayn-Randian/Objectivists when you need one?
You know, the ones you used to hear about in conjunction with what a real Republican is?

"We" are the Hollow (Wo)men,
"We" are the stuffed (Wo)men,
Leaning together,
Headpiece filled with straw . . .

(Thank you T.S. Eliot)

11. With a name like that
You KNOW it has to be another far right Orwellian lie.

LOL.

Sort of like "concerned women for America" a group that actively works AGAINST women's rights and reproductive freedom.
