Lieberman: “Iraq has now become what everyone thinks it was before."
“Iraq has now become what everyone thinks it was before, another battlefield in this war with Islamic terrorists, and we’ve got to end it with a victory,” Mr. Lieberman said during an interview with the nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Glenn Beck on Tuesday.

:wtf:

I don't understand what Lieberman meant by this. It only makes sense if he means that Iraq was *not* what he says it has become, which is "another battlefield with Islamic terrorists," and *that* was certainly *not* what "everyone thinks it was before." Only dopes like the neocons thought it was that.

Do you see the reason for my confusion? Is Lieberman weakly and dimly suggesting that even though the neocons were wrong about Iraq and terror, since it's now actually become a front for terror, only a military solution can work there? In other words, is he trying to pretend he didn't think it was a front for terror? Or is he admitting he was wrong to think it was a front for terror?

In any case, this statment, it seems to me, is a, perhaps, unwitting admission that Lieberman and the neocons fucked up. It's not a ringing endorsement for a return to the levers of legislative power, that's for sure.

1. I think facts, history, logic don't matter anymore
It's just we've got to fight we've got to fight we've got to win victory victory victory.

They always stray from these questions:

WHO are we fighting

WHO support us being there

WHAT constitutes "winning"

WHAT benchmarks are there for "victory"

2. There goes your election, Joe
Victory???? There will be no victory in Iraq, you moron. Our best hope is to stabilize the place a little bit and get the hell out. That's the MOST you can hope for. There will be no mercy in this election, you idiot.

4. Liebermann's just making noise to keep his face out in the
public arena and he's just saying crap so that people will take him for a policy expert (all the while trying so very hard not to offend either the get-out-now or stay-the-course crowd).

What a pandering, pathetic old man.

5. There's a little old lady that lives on my street.
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 10:02 AM by kiki
I told everyone who'd listen, "Watch out for her. She's dangerous. If she had the chance she'd kill you and everyone you care about."

Sure, she just looked like a harmless old lady, but people took my words to heart, even though there was absolutely no evidence to back them up. They started intimidating her, daubing phrases like "Little old ladies are fascists" on her walls, breaking her windows. Someone even killed her dog.

So the other day I saw her sitting on her porch, looking all nervous and twitchy. She'd bought herself a gun.

"See?" I said to everyone who'd listen. "I told you she was dangerous."

Or, to put it another way, FUCK Joe Lieberman.

8. These are the facts about Iraq
1. The Iraqi Government Is Little More Than a Group of "Talking Heads"

A minimally viable central government is built on at least three foundations: the coercive capacity to maintain order, an administrative apparatus that can deliver government services and directives to society, and the resources to manage these functions. The Iraqi government has none of these attributes -- and no prospect of developing them. It has no coercive capacity. The national army we hear so much about is actually trained and commanded by the Americans, while the police forces are largely controlled by local governments and have few, if any, viable links to the central government in Baghdad. (Only the Special Forces, whose death-squad activities in the capital have lately been in the news, have any formal relationship with the elected government; and they have more enduring ties to the U.S. military that created them and the Shia militias who staffed them.)

9. He's saying that what we were told before about Iraq wasn't true -
harboring terrorists, etc. But it has become that now, and it's part of the "war on terror" so we have to stay there and fight even though the reasons we invaded in the first place were lies.

The lies have now become truth; and we're not responsible for any of it.

10. And now, just for the Blue Oyster Cult fans...
You see me now, a veteran
Of a thousand psychic wars
My energy's spent at last
And my armor is destroyed
I have used up all my weapons
And I'm hopeless and bereaved
Bones are all I'm made of...

Did I hear you say that this is victory?

But, because a fundamentalist fruitcake and a phalanx of fascist sycophants lead by Joe LIEberman decided to launch their splendid little war, Iraq has now become a front in the ridiculous "War on Terror." That's the conventional wisdom, but the reality is that Iraq is not a front in the "War on Terror" at all. It's just a misbegotten mess. It's a horror-movie set -- a picture-perfect platform upon which anyone opposed to anything can step up and make us their target. Wow! Democracy is so easy and it's the only answer. As Bush so eloguently put it, "I wouldn't want to be occupied, either". Quagmire accomplished! They're all free to worship Jesus now, and that's all that matters.

25. Finallly, an accidental semblance of truth from Holy Joe
Translation:

Iraq was a secular state ruled by a military dictator, who kept the Shiite fundamentalists under lock and key.

Now, we have opened the cages to the zoo and the Sharia law Shiite whackos are largely in control and aligned with Iran, our current arch enemy, although the Sunnis are fighting to try to gain back control. We are in the middle of the clusterfuck, but mostly behind concrete blast walls in the Green Zone watching Iraqis blow each other up.

If the Shiites gain control, then we are screwed.

Uhm, now whose idea was it to go invade Iraq again? Mr. LiberNEOCONman?

:argh:

:argh:
