I am free
as much as a human can expect to be.

I am free.

What does that mean to you?

I am free?

1. I can do whatever I want, limited only by my own ability...
...and my respect for the right of others
to do whatever THEY want.

2. Once I was walking down a deserted beach in the morning.
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 11:53 PM by Mountainman
No one was there but me and the sea birds and dolphins and seals in the water. I was naked as the day I was born and suddenly an immense sense of freedom and well being came over me for a very short while. If I could feel that way all the time I think I would feel free.

5. Can I have your memory?
free. I can feel it reading your post, and know it didn't just resonate with the reverberation of foolishness.

What a great feeling that must have been.

7. I think about that day all the time and wonder how or why it happened.
I have not had that feeling since and that was over 10 years ago. It was at More Mesa beach in Santa Barbara. I wish I could feel that way all the time.

8. You are truly lucky
some of us search our entire lives to feel that way. I think I'm one of the lucky ones in that way, but love to read thoughts like yours. Thank you!

:hi:

3. I am free...means I can go to any store or place to eat
withought being looked down upon or followed...

I am free means that I can associate with, love whomever I want and I don't have to answer to anyone but myself and my God.

I am free means I am not under fear that my Government is spying on me because I don't agree with their policies.

I am free to not be persecuted by religious neocon zeolots in the USA.

I am Free because I am an American citizen in the Greatest country in the world. (Well it will be once again when we get rid of the criminals)

9. First and foremost, it means by body, my physical person, is my own.
It means my body doesn't belong to any church or government.

It means I control my own destiny. If I am terminally ill and wish for a pain-free exit of my own choosing, that's between me and my doctor. I control my own reproductive system and choices. If I choose to ingest alcohol, substances or chemicals without harming or endangering others, that's my business just as surely as it is my central nervous system and bloodstream. If I am pregnant, it's my business -not Bill Frist's, not Pat Robertson's- how the pregnancy goes or doesn't go. Presuming everyone involved is a consenting adult, I choose who to love, how to love, where to go, what to eat, what to read, what to wear, what to watch, what to listen to, and most importantly, what to THINK.

Sadly, on most of this planet, "I" am not free. Not by a long stretch.

10. Freedom
May all beings everywhere be free and happy, and may my thoughts and actions in some way contribute to their happiness and freedom. May all beings always be free of attachment and aversion. I have a very rough time being free of aversion to the violent, ugly, selfish mentality that has overtaken my country. I pray for compassion towards all those who are victims of fear and paranoia, that my own joy and kindness might illuminate their path.

15. I think he/she is speaking metaphorically.
I mean, I work a full time job. In exchange I recieve a paycheck. I am forced to sit in this little room in this building for 36 1/2 hours a week just in order to have money with which to live. Sure, I can quit if I don't like it, but I still need to find another job to earn money with which to live.

We are all slaves to a corporatist society. We have no other option but to keep working to earn money to live which in turn, is fed straight back into the hulking machine.

Only a select few will rise above that "battery" lifestyle.

14. For me, part of it has to do with being free of debt
Owing people money is such a suffocating, horrible thing. My debt is no where near the large amount that many Americans have, but I can't stand it.
