Another reporter takes Bush's ridicule in stride
Why do they take it? This time, Bush knocked the Cox reporter about his clothes 3 times in yesterday's presser:

“By the way, seersucker is coming back. I hope everybody gets it,” Bush told me when he first noticed my suit....

And then, after a few more topics, he talked about my suit again after, in a reference to the Connecticut Senate election that he is staying out of, I reminded him that Connecticut was his native state.

“I may be the only person — the only presidential candidate who never carried the state in which he was born,” Bush said. “Do you think that’s right, Herman? Of course, you would have researched that and dropped it out for everybody to see, particularly since I dissed that just ridiculous-looking outfit.”
...
A few minutes later, when Bush called on me for a question, I stood and awaited further sartorial abuse.

“Go ahead,” I said, inviting another jab or two.

“I don’t need to now that you’ve stood up, and everybody can clearly see for themselves,” he said.

So he writes about it. Good, I think, Draw some attention to the petty, narcissistic bastard's proclivity toward belittling those around him. But that's *not* what's happening here. Herman seems almost proud of the attention-

For the record, as Bush noted during the news conference, I have been covering him for many years, back to his first gubernatorial campaign. We have traded a good-natured barb or two over the years.

Oh, really? Traded barbs before, have you? Give me an example -just one example, Ken- when you poked fun at something about George W. Bush. (extra points if the exchange took place in a room full of people with cameras!) Is he boasting?: "Oh yeah, me 'n the big guy have gone a few rounds -all in good fun. What?...Well sure, I was hospitalized and he ended up with my lunch money. So?"

The grandiose sense of self importance and entitlement that Bush exhibits with such impunity is bad enough. -But what gives with reporters who embrace it and go all Candy Crowley on us? Are they really so shallow as to be star struck by Preznit Pull My Finger? Is the gaggle -with but a few notable exceptions- just a bunch of groupies?

4. Bush is so obvious.
He was raised in a culture of 'achievement' above all else, yet is incapable of attaining even the most modest personal goals himself. His education, every job he's ever held, the Presidency itself have been handed to him through family connections and the labors of others. Bush is only capable of damaging everything he touches and failing in every endeavour he attempts.

Given this, it's only natural that the only way he can attain the feeling of superiority he craves is by demeaning others. Hailing Tony Blair with "Yo Blair!", massaging Angela Merkel, criticizing journalists' clothes, clapping strangers on the back; all of it is evidence of a pathetic need to be 'top dog,' regardless of the fact that he is, in every way that matters, the bottom dog.

A child psychologist would have a lot of fun with Curious George.

8. Actually, Bush is the "pariah".
However, I don't understand why any reporter would make excuses for his abuse.

9. Its like when fratties and popular kids pick on losers
the press corps is like the pathetic kid who got his ass kicked every day by football jocks and got ripped on by the popular kids, but thought that the attention made him popular by association, and that he would be friends with them soon.

14. "Good-natured barb" my ass - that little punk is mean
With a mama that looks like his does, he has no business dissing anybody else for anything. He's just beggin for some "yo mama" putdown if any of these wussy reporters had enough backbone to call him on it. In fact there are SO many things you could say that would make him cry......
