Serious question
What would it take and who might take the initiative to impeach Bush and Cheney?

The conceptual problems which I envision include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Many (most?) Americans believe that open criticism of leadership in front of others (ie the rest of the world) is bad behaviour. I have observed this kind of 'closing of ranks' in corporate life and there is no reason to believe it would be different in a national or international political context.

- Many Americans believe that challenging or criticising the leadership in time of war is unacceptable, and probably unpatriotic.

- Even among those Americans who are critical of the Bush administration many would rather grit their teeth rather than admit to the world at large, especially the Muslim world (and maybe the French too), that America has got it wrong and had been led by (at best) liars and misguided souls.

- Many Americans don't care enough about the issue to have a strong opinion.

- Many Americans unquestionably support Bush, his administration and the war in Iraq. Admittedly, based on the latest polls, that number is the smallest it has been since the war was started but it is still a large number of people.

From all that I see and hear and read there is more than enough evidence to make a very compelling case for impeachment. The consequences of the actions of this administration so totally and utterly dwarf Clinton's indiscretions and dishonesty and yet, in this case, no-one has seen fit to even try to run with it.

How do you account for that?

1. It doesn't matter what Americans think. It only matters what
Congress does to trigger an impeachment. And it's a Bush Congress.

2. For christs sake - the republicans run the damn senate,
judiciary, executive, and congress.

Thats how we account for it.

And don't think for a minute that Americans unquestionably support Bush. The republican party has STOLEN this country and are imposing their twisted agenda.

8. This Country while nominally a democracy, doesn't work on what

Americans think. Do you actually believe Americans think we should have trillions of dollars worth of weapons systems against no existing threats instead of health care for their children? It has been a really long time, if ever, that this Country actually cared what the average American thought.
