(VIDEO) Hackett on Hardball

The fact that this Van Taylor guy is a veteran of this war makes his drinking of the kool-aid all the harder to stomach

6. After six years Tweeter has finally learned how to smack the Kool Aid
...swilling reThuglicans. Van Taylor can only repeat the party propaganda and demonstrated that die to heavy exposure to mind control he can't answer direct questions.

16. Times two!
His is the voice of the Democratic Party I want to be part of!

Hackett speaks the language of the people. He's 180 degrees from the Beltway. Washington insiders: You had better listen up and do it quickly!

13. Nice to see Hackett directing his passion the right way
he had me more than a bit worried for a while, but he can obviously be a formidable force for positive change.

He did a great job with this one.

15. This Game Film MUST be shown to **every** Democrat.
Van Taylor clearly didn't do so well in the RW's candidate school. I'm surpirzed they even allowed him to run. Hacket **destroyed** him.

Here's the two essential strategic pearls in that clip.

1 - Taylor lost the whole debate in the first 10 seconds. Tweety asked him a question and Taylor went right for the talking point. Tweety interrupted him and re-asked the question. Any halfway skilled teevee yakker would have just kept going, right over Tweety. (Answer the question you want to, not the question that's asked.) Most Repubs know this and do it skillfully. Most dems simply don't.

2 - Come to the fight armed to the teeth. Hackett knew who he was debating, in particular all his weaknesses. And he keep poking the knife into those weak spots. Over and over and over. With outrage. With derision. With mocking laughter (skillfully shown by biting it before it turned to a guffaw, late in the clip). Hackett also kept interrupting when he wanted to and threw the appropriate punches.

That was a gun fight and Taylor came with a pea shooter.

This film clip NEEDS to be seen by EVERY Dem candidate.

19. It was lovely wasn't it.
Democrats take note.

Paul Hackett is one tough son of a bitch--that Republican was spouting off talking points like a broken record.

I liked the bit about sending money to Sherrod Brown. That was classy. It's good to see that he's gotten over being dumped from the Senate race and is back on the side of the angels. Joe Lieberman take note--this is what a person who cares about his country more than himself conducts himself after a disappointment. Hackett was dumped by the party elders. Lieberman was dumped by the party rank & file. I suppose that it's too much to ask for Lieberman to eventually come around the way Hackett did.

Tweety too sounded rather pissed at getting the talking points thrown in his face no matter what the question. Of course tomorrow he'll probably be back on his medication so we shouldn't get our hopes up that he's finally seen the light.

17. This was an absolute masterpiece by Hackett.
Van Taylor could do NOTHING but keep repeating the soundbites. He just looked more and more pathetic as the interview went on. Hackett even nailed Taylor on the soundbites by calling him out on them. :)

General rule of thumb is the less action they see, the more gung-ho they are for the war.

20. Remarkable for two reasons
It is remarkable that someone on TV told the truth about Iraq without equivocation and in plain language. Great job Paul!

Also: It is remarkable that it is remarkable. For more than three years, circumstances have demanded this kind of response and passion from our representatives and from journalists. This is about war, death, power, pain, squandering resources, mortgaging the future. Everyone with a microphone should have been saying this stuff for years now. It would have been a sign of healthy democracy and honest public discourse. A precious few have done it. That we are grateful and awed that someone stands up and explains this mess well in prime time is evidence of how low our dysfunctional society has fallen. Almost all of our representatives and journalists are smart enough and articulate enough to say the exact same thing. And we know they can see it, same as us. Why they haven't stepped forward is a mystery to me.

23. The neocons DESPERATELY need an Iraq vet on their side
They need their own poster boy. Well, they apparently got one. Unfortunately, they got one who can't do anything but spout rover's talking points in response to every question.

Keep looking, guys.
