Boycott Dunkin' Donuts? Owned by Bush & Romney
I used to love Dunkin' Donuts - until it was purchased in 2005, mostly by the Carlyle Group (The Bush Family's investment vehicle) and Bain Capital Partners (Mitt Romney's toy).

What surprises me is that virtually nobody else that I know realizes that patronizing DD is giving money to these two fringe-Right clans.

Of course I don't patronize them anymore - I'll not give a dime to those swine.

Does anyone else feel this way about DD? Or are yummy treats more important than stopping fascism?

18. Shouldn't Be. It's The Democratic Thing To Do In My Opinion.
The notion the OP suggests is one of narrow thinking in my assessment. Whether Carlyle owns most of it or not, the simple fact is that Dunkin Donuts is a franchise opportunity so any boycott against them is gonna do diddley squat towards hurting them but is likely that if anyone was affected at all it would be the small business owner and the common working man/woman like you and me.

Good ole regular Joe's and Jane's buy D & D franchises to make a living and strive for the american dream of business ownership. Though the franchise fee goes somewhat to Carlyle as do some other profits, overall the livelihood of the establishment affects the owner itself and the common employees that are employed there. Are they the targets you intend to hurt? That's who this proposal is targetting.

Though intentions are good, the fact is the OP is quite misguided in its mission as the very people that would be hurt by such declarations are the people we generally stand to protect and support. It is quite likely that many D & D owners are liberals, democrats or non neo-con in nature, so what the fuck motivation would I have to not support them and their business?

So it shouldn't be a surprise to you that I would buy the same there as always, since it is definitely aligned with democratic ideals to support small business and the common working class.

The OP meant well, but it's just simply not an effective idea.

:hi:

5. Hey newcomer.....
"Or are yummy treats more important than stopping fascism?"

Lay off the self righteous looking down your nose crappola.

Unless you're a monk or homeless, chances are somewhere, in someway, you are also contributing to fascists.

A simple notice about who has bought DD and a mention that you will be boycotting them will suffice.

15. LOL...."Newcomer". What an incredibly condescending statement.
"Lay off the self righteous looking down your nose crappola."

Pot? Meet kettle.

rinsd? You've only been posting here a 5 months longer than the OP'r. Just cause he only has a 3 digit post count doesnt make him a "newcomer"

It amazes me the responses some posts get.

My 1st thought when i saw this thread was "Dunkin Donuts suck anyway, Bush deserves em'" and i probably wouldnt have responded because i see this as a non-issue, but that's my opinion. But now that i have responded i dont think it is necessary to take the original poster to task because of semantics or anything else. I'd rather respond to the possible ill effects this might have on the donut eating public (none as far as i can tell) or the simple fact that this IS a market, capitalist economy and any entity with the wherewithall to purchase another entity can do so, whether it is well thought of or not. Perhaps the assholes at Carlyle will run Dunkin Donuts into the ground and the whole point will be moot.

But i have no problem mentioning to someone that they are insulting another who doesnt deserve it.

;;;;;sigh;;;;;; I suppose this is a windmill i should no longer tilt at.

Best wishes and happy donuts

7. Thanks for the heads up
I have only bought DDs a couple times, but I couldn't see what was so wonderful about them. We have two bakeries in town that do a much better job and they are cheaper, too.

I support local businesses, whenever possible. At least I know who owns them.

16. More than likely, a neighbor of yours owns the store.
Its a franchise, just like the Baskin-Robbins in your town too (also a "Dunkin Brands" entity)

I never bought into the "DD is Wonderful" mantra. Their coffee is OK, their donuts are too damn sweet, and the plain is like cement. They do nothing for me.

Stay away from Office Depot, too: http://mediarelations.officedepot.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140162&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=673921&highlight=

30. I can see it now ...
Once he leaves office we will see him in those commercials mumbling "Time to make the donuts".

What a funny visual that is!

Anyway, I don't go there anymore. I did take my room mates mother there the other day, because she requested to go there (she doesn't drive and I was taking her to the hospital to see her husband who was a patient there). I took the opportunity to explain to her, as we were waiting in line for her coolatta, WHY she shouldn't frequent there anymore. I know I won't be asked to take her there anymore at least. As for donuts, she supports a local mom/pop place every Sunday as she takes their donuts to work and sells them to the other employees there.

Now, if she could just learn to get her coffee somewhere else ... ;)

once in the while, esp while traveling, I like to stop there. Only a tiny bit of my donut money will go to Carlyle, diddly squat compared to the massive amount of TAX MONEY that is going to them.
